    Bus Transformation

The cost for the spray foam insulation was $600.00. The single most expensive part of the conversion. There is no danger of the exhaust starting the foam on fire as the cab and engine compartment area was not sprayed. The exhaust drops down on hangers below the area that was sprayed the rest of...

    New South Dakota resident

I live in SD and have worked in other states a lot with my job. John is right. You will end up paying state income tax in whatever state you work in. The only way it really helps people is with vehicle insurance, Soc. Security and tabs. There are actually some states where tabs are cheaper...

    chevy G30 diesel

Mechanics have a different way of looking at vehicles that (1) they haven't worked on much, there for, don't know much about and don't want to admit it, (2) they don't like, or (3) they don't want to work on. So they tell a potential customer any of a number of negative things to dissuade any...

New Mercedes van coming out... The Metris...

It may say Mercedes on it but it is not the Mercedes that we have all grownaccustomed to. Mercedes is following the footsteps of every other car maker out there and has began to build in the US. They are cutting corners like crazy to build for the masses. I've got 2 Mercedes cars. One is 39...

    Van Driving Style

I drive diesel cars without turbo's and have a 40 year old van. The cars will get out and rip up some blacktop but accelerate slowly. Their fuel mileage is affected drastically by speed so I drive them pretty slowly. The newer one about 70 on the interstate; the older one Nev r see's the...

Did I get a good deal?

That's a crackin good buy on that old Chevy. The 305 has a little less power but makes up for it in mpg. No hurry anyway right?!?

    How old is your van?

Like the original poster my van is a 1975. It is for sale now as I went to a larger footprint, as in, bus type foot print.

2 vans - promising or not?

I'm with high desert stranger on this one. Same reasons. That Chevy has been a work van most of it's life. I don't what that guy says. Work vans get hard use. It is very hard to find a cargo van much cleaner than that dodge; they get used up on the the job usually.

Older foreign make vs. younger "Big Three"

Almost there said, " She can have mine." We've had electrical issues as well but that is kinda my forte I guess. As far as the snow; I know what you mean. We live up north and those hide-away wipers are a pain. You gotta keep 'em clean all the time. South Dakota doesn't use much salt so we've...

Older foreign make vs. younger "Big Three"

We have had 2 Olds Sillouettes and now a Pontiac Montana. We have had good luck with motors and transmissions. Run the first two to well over 250,000 miles. The first got wrecked at around 270,000, the second blew a head gasket at around 2750,000 and still runs but we are using it for parts for...

    chevy G30 diesel

With a little maintenance those are decent diesels. Where they really shine is on fuel mileage. No powerhouse but good solid old motors. Parts are everywhere for those older chevy's. I actually lusted after one of this a few years ago but settled on a bus instead.

    Cost of parts/labor on a full-sized van?

In my experience mini's are way harder to work on than full sized vans. Just the size factor; there is more clearance around components. ANY van is going to be a PITAa to a degree; it is the nature of the engine compartment design. I find the full sized ones easier to work on though.

best foldup chair for van ?

https://www.menards.com/main/mobile/p-2241607-c-13020.htm I have a plastic fold up chair I bough a menards that I used in my van when staying in it. It is hard to find a fold up chair you can use in a van. Most are too big. Sixteen dollars at menards. I weigh just under 200 and it works good...

What is a Good Mini-Van to Live In?

Also, in the GM line, the deluxe models have leather seats, cargo racks on top, built in dvd and an air compressor in the rear for the air shocks and airing up tires etc. We've had an Olds. with this set up and now a Montana van.

    Getting ready!

I don't know anything about the Chevy 8.1 but I've heard from others that the Ford v10 is both good on gas and reliable.

    Bus Transformation

Compassrose, I've seen some good ideas come from your side of the fence and this one is no exception. That looks good, serves a purpose and is down right clever. I like the way it looks too.
