Independent living in a totally interdependent universe is proving to be quite challenging.

If you want to avoid the checkpoints, try using I-40 instead. You can come down to Quartzsite from Needles or from Flagstaff. Much better drive IMO. And you avoid the unwanted intrusion.

Be sure to buy a Alaska Mile Post Travel Book for the current year. It will have gas stations & hotels listed that are open during that time of year. Start looking for a gas station when you are at 1/2 tank. Some of the animals will not move out of your way, you must slow down and not hit them...

Thank you all for your suggestions, it was very helpful. After all the research and all, I went with the Tentipi Safir 7, Inner Tent, and a Wood Burning stove. Big $$$!, but it will all stow inside my Cherokee while still leaving me with enough room to sleep inside. Thank you all! Cheers!

Just a thought... You might need a more heavy duty vehicle. I ran into that trying to use a Jeep Cherokee 4.0 to tow a 6x10 that only weighed half what you have in mind. It struggled big time with 3.55 gears. Instead of changing the gear ratio to 4.10, I will replace it with a more HD vehicle...

Thank you for the suggestion. Yeah, will probably go with the Kodiak, especially with the price being so much lower than the Tentipi.  Although the Tentipi does offer some compelling advantages like a wood stove/open fire option, the price unfortunately may be too high.

Tried the Cargo Trailer last year... a 6x10. Not my cup of tea.  Gosh! Hopefully I won't be camping only on frozen ground!  :)
