Replace the alternator, it should be such a simple job
Just replaced the alternator on my 1980 E250 4x4 with a new 140 amp one wire from Summit Racing for $125. About an hour and a half to r+r including rewire and a couple of beers......man I love these old rigs.- CaptCraig

Reminder of the dangers of extended vans
The best way to improve vehicle handling especially vans, that I've found (and I've tried most of the stuff out there having owned and operated suspension and brake shops) is to bolt on a RoadMaster Active Suspension kit. With a good set of shocks that's about as good as it gets. ...
