    Wiring suitcase solar panel

If this is a permanent install you do not need connectors. I would use crimped lugs to connect wires directly to panels. Install charge controller as close to your batteries as possible. This will keep the voltage drop between controller and batteries to a minimum. When you add additional...

Length of wires from PV panel-controller-battery?

It's best to have the controller as close to the battery as possible. If the battery is a flooded lead acid it should be vented and the charge controller should be in a different compartment. Fumes from the battery can corrode wiring in the controller.

Making a D.I.Y chilly bin with extruded polystyrene (XPS)

Self inflating air mattresses have foam in them. When you unroll one, the foam expands and draws in air. I agree that a regular air mattress is useless.

Making a D.I.Y chilly bin with extruded polystyrene (XPS)

I spent four months in New Zealand in 2009 and camped in my tent virtually the whole time. That was the first time I heard the term "chilly bin". I purchased a cheap self inflating air mattress that was totally useless. I quickly upgraded to a much better one and used the old one to wrap around...

Wave 3 shutting off when switched to low setting

I'm not familiar with the Wave heater, but I have a Buddy heater which has a pilot light that heats a thermocouple. If the pilot light is  too low or the thermocouple is defective or out of position the heater will shut down. Altitude may also be an issue.

DC to DC charger installation issue

AGM batteries are lead acid. From Wikipedia: "A valve-regulated lead-acid battery (VRLA battery) sometimes called sealed lead-acid (SLA) or maintenance free battery. There are three primary types of VRLA batteries, sealed VR wet cell, absorbent glass mat (AGM) and gel cell. Gel cells add silica...

Best cell phone plan deal of the moment, Visible by Verizon?

Sorry, but this is the first case that I've used so I have nothing to compare it to. The case is made of a rubber like material and it has buttons that match up with the phone buttons. It also has openings for the camera, mic, earphone, and USB.

Best cell phone plan deal of the moment, Visible by Verizon?

I've had my R2 for two months. After about a month I received a package from Visible that contained a case and screen protector. I don't know if this will be the case for recent purchases.

Best cell phone plan deal of the moment, Visible by Verizon?

I have had the Visible R2 for 2 months and it has been working great. I live in a Minneapolis suburb and have had no speed issues. I will be traveling to Washington state in a few days and it will be a good test for coverage.  Even though they state that the tethered speed is limited to 5Mb/s...

Completely unlimited & unthrottled mobile data

I don't know if Jetpacks are locked. I purchased mine on eBay about three years ago when people where programming them for $5/month Verizon unlimited 3G. The only thing I had to do was plug in the SIM and change the APN to "VSBLINTERNET".

Completely unlimited & unthrottled mobile data

The app is only needed to activate the SIM. Once activated I can remove the SIM from my phone and plug it into my Verizon 6620L MiFi Jetpack and it works.

Completely unlimited & unthrottled mobile data

You may want to check out Visible. Their plan is unlimited everything including hotspot for $40 per month. They started out with a speed limit of 5 Mb/s but they recently lifted that for a limited time. Here's what they say on their site: "Unlimited data, messages, and minutes all on Verizon’s...

    UPS Battery Backup from Computer?

Usually a UPS will sound an alarm when there is no 120 VAC in. This would get very annoying quickly.
