    I have created my 'weekender'

Can on top of stove.......Brad,  FYI, look up excessive CO caused by burning fossil fuels. You will notice that a clean burning flame generates less carbon monoxide if the flame temperature is not quenched with a cold surface.  Of course your going to generate more CO when cooking and having...

    Solar confusion

DianaR, these " power boxes" are just too over priced for me, for years I have been making my own , I simple adhere an inverter to the side of the battery, adhere charge controller to another side and adhere an outlet panel to another side, with GOOP adhesive.  I do this with 12V35aH batteries...

    A nice project for someone

Nice find.........50+ years old, I can't imagine the time and purchases it would take to make it reliable. It would be nice to hear the makeover story  of who ever  buys and restores it.  Talent required!!  To me,  life is about managing frustration,   I'm not going to go and buy frustration, I...

    camping in Nat'l Parks

In Big Bend National Park, there are 4 types of camping. RV parks with hook-ups, campground parks (water), Zone camping (walk-in 1/2 mile from road in a designated zone), and primitive campsite (a designated camp spot off a road somewhere marked and bordered with timbers)  The campground 1/2...

    Plywood Question

For my twin XL beds, I always make them with 1/4 BC plywood glued to   1.5" x 2"  cleats ripped from WP 2x4's, the 1 3/8" remaining pieces are nailed and glued crossways. Yes, If a 300 lb person got in the center and started jumping up and down on the raw product, he could damage it, but when...

    Solar confusion

Me, solars at $1 / watt = $200, (their water proof already, made for outdoor use),  charge controller $20 , I do not tie stuff to my alternator vehicle charging system, never/ever,  that's just me, and I would increase budget a little to get a 12V100aH LiFePo which is equivalent to two Gels at...

LERCA... FYI....on a youtubers boon docking channel, this couple place's there clothes in one of those kayaking dry sacks, put some soap in it with 2 or 3 gallons of water. PVC piping for bed

If you make it from PVC, but, by this time you probably already have but I haven't seen a "what you did follow-up", make sure you glue it, all joints,  or it will squeak when moving around on it. Everything I make is from plywood and cleats and wood glue.  I go to the box store and hand pick the...

    Vent CFM vs. Interior size

syckosama  are you  trying to vent for prevention of   1. It's to hot in the van  2 . CO is building up constantly, feels muggy/stuffy.  I would say get what your looking at and add a variable speed "rheostat" in series with the power wire. On hot days you want to move a lot of air but on cold...

    PRIME DAYS on Amazon

NL, I have both but I like the  flame control on the Butane stove's.  (3 of them)  I buy the 12 packs of fuel from Amazon for around $30.  They last a long time if you just cook with them, heating the room  will always be via propane.

    Solar to battery ratio

Wattage draw to high on freezer, I would assume it's a DC freezer, (55 watts x 12 hrs a day) draw might be correct for AC but I would adjust for 25% duty cycle.

    Van wall thickness and bulletproofing

Maybe you could provide partial protection to minimize your risk of a stray / intentional bullet. To bullet proof the whole vehicle is impractical as you are here, there and about during the day. How about just BP'ing a small section on each side of where you sleep which is maybe 33% of the day...
