Not so much new as coming back.

I've been looking back on my posts which seem to have ended in early 2021. Since then, my 2017 brain injury resolved itself in the form of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. After that I settled with insurance companies, qualified for disability benefits and learned what my boundaries and limitations...

    cooking simple food in car

Years ago, while browsing in a thrift store, I found a very tiny Crock Pot. Subsequent research found that it is not available as an individual item but, is included with a larger one. It has no controls, just plugged in or unplugged. It has low power consumption, I think 35 W. I can put...

How to keep your bed warm.

I've mixed and matched from most of the things already mentioned. Another thing I've been known to do is make a thermos of very hot coffee to toss in the bottom of the sleeping bag. As far as heat goes, it's sort of slow release, but it's still hot coffee in the morning.

    Trailer section?

Well, I typed trailer into the search box and then scrolled down the first 2 pages of responses. It seems that trailers are usually discussed as Miscellaneous Vehicles or VanLiving topics that don't fit in other areas. I'm sure that trailers are a significant part of the our fleet, especially...

    very thin cotton

I have a short list of things to look for whenever I wonder through the isles of a thrift store. Two of the things at the top of the list are True North, 100% Merino Wool, long sleeve pull-over shirts and long sleeve button up silk shirts. Light coloured silk shirts, just a bit larger than I...

Removing the front passenger seat and utilizing it's space (example pics please)

I've taken out both seats on the right side of the Sportage RV. I built and bolted a storage box in place of the rear seat that also serves as part of the bed. When I stick the pillow and part of the mattress in the back it is also a counter and table. In the front I built what I call the...

Prices for used vans have skyrocketed! Any ideas for buying a used TALL VAN for less?

Yeah, sitting up straight is important. In my Sportage the seat behind the driver seat is the living/dining/kitchen. Once I push the driver's seat forward and tilt the seat-back forward, I have a lot of room. I can sit back and put one leg up on top of the other for example. I can also...

Prices for used vans have skyrocketed! Any ideas for buying a used TALL VAN for less?

Some more of my thoughts on a box van They are intended as both a contribution for others and maybe I can get some thoughts for myself. Yes, they probably use more fuel than a standard van but I'm not sure it would be that much. So far I have narrowed my search to cut-away vans that I have...

Careful with that table saw Eugene!

My Dad was a real advocate for safety with power tools. I've adopted his practices. One of his rules was to never have a switch on a table saw. If it's unplugged it's off. Anyway, he was 72 when he stuck his left thumb in the table saw blade. It doesn't even take a second. MG

Prices for used vans have skyrocketed! Any ideas for buying a used TALL VAN for less?

It might be worth looking at a cutaway box van. They have the same cab, chassis and engine and some have the same length box as an extended van. Some are longer. The box is wider and taller than the back of a van and best of all, the walls are flat and the corners are square. Doors and...

Motorcycle to use as a "toad" with van

With the political situation what it is right now, a Russian motorcycle probably isn't the best choice. I've often dreamed of a toy hauler or trailer with a Ural Motorcycle and sidecar. They come as a single unit. You can ride in rear wheel drive on the highway or engage the sidecar wheel...

For those who drive duallies on rocky roads

I was on a bicycle one time on a road that had very little traffic but most of it was big. There were no shoulders but there was little enough traffic that trucks could easily pass a bicycle. As a loaded dump truck and trailer were passing me, a stone between 2 tires on the trailer caused one...

Keeping warm in sub-freezing weather, using only a tiny amount of fuel for heat.

I think that most people are looking for 2 things when planning for a heater. Those 2 things are 1) cheap and 2) convenient. There are 2 frequent solutions to this inquiry. One choice is a portable propane heater that you can take out of the box and heat your vehicle with in a matter of...

    Anywhere in southwestern British Columbia.

What's the cleanest, cheapest, most minimal eating I can do?

I just learned some and confirmed a lot more. I'm still a part-timer and I eat very much on the road and at home. I gave up on a cooler long ago. It didn't seem to be worth the space it takes up. While I make plans for a more mobile life I find myself more inclined to consider a freezer than...

    Window coverings dilemma

I've done some side windows with the rigid foam. At first I noticed some conflict between the foam and the rubber trim around the window. I sanded a bevel on the foam so I can press it tight against the glass without touching the window trim I've found a few uses for pieces of collapsible...

Best car to sleep in back with no modifications?

Many vehicle ago I had a 2 door Saturn. I removed the front, right seat and the back of the left, rear seat. Two 2x10 and an air mattress made up the bed. Part of it was hinged because the driver's seat needed to be forward to make the headboard. The deep cycle battery was in the box...

    Fire Extinguisher and CO detector

I've got a 2 lb dry chemical extinguisher mounted between the driver's seat and door. Aside from the obvious, it isn't pepper spray, it isn't a club and it doesn't draw any attention at a random police check point. MG

Looking for a comprehensive solar power resource guide

My current RV is a kia Sportage with a portable 100 watt solar panel. For now it is mounted in a rack under the roof-top carrier. I slide it out and set it up when I'm making camp. I don't use the carrier in the summer, so the panel will be fine flat on the roof. I added the carrier, which I...

    Passenger van

I'm currently pondering a van as a step up in size from the Sportage RV. I've seen several cargo vans with a variety of window formats such as just the rear windows or all the doors. I want lots of insulation and think starting with an empty cargo van seems to make the most sense. Better yet...
