Got an email reply saying they can't find it, and denying they had anything to do with it. I had parked overnight in their lot, and know it was there in the morning. After the repair, I parked behind their building, to use their wifi, and something was definitely different, lightwise, but I was...

I got nasty tow notice for legitimate dentist visit

squid: It's just a single bully. Sorry you had to experience that! :( I'm new to this, and have already had a couple of bully experiences, albeit in an old but decent appearing camper van. I'm glad you brought it to the attention of your dental team. That will decrease the likelihood that it...

    Finding more cubic space

Cool van hacking - thanks! :) There's a "How-To Tutorials" sub-forum, however they've cunningly nested it under something else, so it's truly non-obvious: https://vanlivingforum.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=54 Here's the picture posting tutorial: https://vanlivingforum.com/showthread.php?tid=13285...

Lesson Learned NF Time Limit Ticket

Spiff: thanks! 261 has a bunch of sub stuff, some rather vague. Could you narrow it down even more? You Beagle peeps have the innate skills to do so. ;) My first guess was: "261.10 Occupancy and use" part "b" but it doesn't appear to prohibit "living" just prohibits disobeying the duration...

Lesson Learned NF Time Limit Ticket

Did they warn you, at all? Citation, please. Seriously, I'm not yanking your chain, I want to know the exact wording of this alleged statute. :) I have told multiple gov workers that I'm "living" on public land, and they've all been chill about it. Granted, I also explain what I'm doing (very...

Equifax Data Breach - proposed settlement (Krebs on Security)

I mostly posted that link to introduce y'all to an awesome cybersecurity resource. :) In particular, he has some superb info on credit freezes, which are now free, and a great way to stick-it-to-The-Man. :) Brian: Thanks for the settlement site link. I ran a WHOIS on it, and the anti-geniuses...

Thanks y'all! I do have to head South-ish in late fall, so if there's anybody reading this who's a Dodge repair Geek and would like to help out, please PM or post. :) Update: Something felt "off" when I was working in the van after the repair. Finally figured it out next morning: my fan/vent...

    Yummy instant potato find

LOL! Make It So! :) I think your "problem" is that you're trying too hard. Embrace the Lazy Force. :) Also, don't guess, use a stopwatch (e.g. cell phone utility), but err on the high side. It might help to make less. I only make an ounce (pre-hydrated), in my regular one-person frypan (the...

I'm assuming it's a rebuild. It was $90.28 plus tax. They didn't mention warranty. By that point, I was in GTM ( == Grit-Teeth Mode). Was thinking they would be my "usual" shop, but not after this. Will contact the shop that fixed my Timing, and ask for a quote to give the van a thorough look...

Because everything's better with butter. :D XERTYX: You're a much more ambitious cook than I am, so I'm surprised you've had any difficulty with hashbrowns. Maybe it's the directions? I'd only made them once (maybe twice) before this thread, and it was the (accidental/lazy) discovery of the...

Update: Yup, the bolt was missing, but apparently the starter was dead, so they had to replace it. Brace yourselves... total cost, including tow: $400 (plus a few pennies) The biggest single item was labor, which was recorded as 1.5 hours. It definitely did not take 1.5 hours (took about 1/2...

Update: After the Library closed & parking lot cleared out, I did crawl under it. Um, it was all Visual Greek to me. #eek# The auto parts store had offered to jump it so I could drive to the repair shop where I had made an appointment. Next day, they tried, but, um, the starter being seriously...

Thanks for the link CK! I just bookmarked their recipes index to explore, later. :) They too concur about not stirring, and must have far more experience than me: :) I'm iffy on adding the bacon first. It's precooked, so really doesn't need 6~ minutes of heat. I've been adding mine near the...

Shiny - thanks! Which brand? Hungry Jack? Early this week, I saw an Amazon price drop ($7.17) on a 33oz box of "Golden Grill" hashbrowns, and ordered it. That's much cheaper than Walmart/etc (but more than that great Costco deal). Have never tried that brand, but I'll take-one-for-the-team. :)

Equifax Data Breach - proposed settlement (Krebs on Security)

Here's a detailed analysis of the proposed settlement of lawsuits against Equifax for the massive data breach that they could have prevented: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2019/07/what-you-should-know-about-the-equifax-data-breach-settlement/ That site ("Krebs on Security") is the #1...

    Entertainment

Last week's coolest wildlife "encounter" was a dragonfly (probably a "Common Whitetail") who decided he liked resting on the top of my spare tire, about one arm length from where I sit & work all day. :) I had prolonged close up views of him, most afternoons for a couple of hours. Fascinating...

    Yummy instant potato find

As mentioned in another thread, here's "loaded" hashbrowns with a fried egg: By "loaded", I mean add a modest amount of bacon bits and some cheese, near the end of cooking (right after the egg is probably easiest)... because pretty much everything is better with bacon and/or cheese. :)...

7.0 cu ft freezer for trailer-safe/inverter

Stymie: What vehicle/combo are you currently in? I'm mainly wondering if it's a trailer (based on your avatar image). If it is, and you're long term at your workamp site, you probably are using your tow vehicle for town runs, and rarely would subject the fridge to rough roads. It may even be...

Thanks! HDR: Once the parking lot clears out, I'll try to take a picture. I'm kicking myself for not asking Kind Marine to snap a pic. :) I'm still hoping he'll pop by (he's a regular Library free wifi-er, with no home internet). Been mostly working on dreary data analysis & live Server...

1 Gallon Vacuum Insulated Jug Nice

LOL! :) Yes, but by "competent" I meant (among other things) less likely to get caught doing Evil. Walmart is more forward thinking, and makes fewer really-stupid-mistakes (purely IMO).
