Partially used small propane bottles - do they leak?

One way to eliminate leaks is to use these caps: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JMT6V6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Just make sure the rubber gasket is in place prior to use....they sometimes fall out. Tip #1:  Remove gasket and add a dab of silicone sealant.  Reinstall...

Roadtrek demonstrates WATT Fuel Cell Technology

Pretty neat....and no moving parts.   Don't fuel cells also produce water and heat at the same time (?)....could be a win-win-win if these prove to be practicable.   Also I imagine they are pretty much silent in operation--much better than annoying your neighbors with a noisy (and smelly) generator.

    Aliner campers

We had a Chalet (same as A liner ) in the late 90's--before we upgraded to a van. Problems we had with it included: * Extremely difficult to setup in high wind (Death Valley)--we had to tie a rope through one of the wheel rims and across the closed trailer before opening it.  This required 2...

    1100 BTU / 12V AC

Interesting.....Might work well IF: * You have a decent battery bank + Solar...and * Have a way of venting the unit to the outside...and * Use it only for a well insulated area....and * 'Wall off' (blankets or divider of some sort) a SMALL section of your VAN or RV....such as a 4'x7' area...

    Packrat trap?

Interesting video on catching mice with peanut oil: Anyone game enough to try this on van/RV 'friendly' packrats?

    Electric 'Bike' ?

If you took a standard bike.... and 'condensed' it down to it's most basic parts, added a battery and motor...and then removed the chain and pedals....you might come up with something close to this...

How soon will electric or hybrid vans/RVs be common?

Another way to look at it:  Would you stay at a 25-50$/night RV campground if it offered full hookups AND a free tank of gas?    Well, you could have that now if your van or RV was electric.   Think of these parks  as deluxe 'fueling stations'  for EV's.  Thus we have more potential charging...

What is the largest vehicle with Prius system of temperature management?

https://www.viamotors.com/electric-vehicles.html Mod Edit, the above link is for electric full size vans. very little info given on website. PLEASE give a description when you post a link.

    In-floor Radiant Heating with Air

Whoever figures this out will likely be the envy of fellow van campers.  I've always thought radiant floor heating (correctly done) would be the ultimate way to heat a camper van.  Advantages:   More comfortable, cleaner, silent...and the heat would NOT be quickly lost to the...

That's a much better choice than this one: .....Yikes!

    The Future of Camper Vans?

If a future solar option is available, one might be able to add 800watts or more (roof+solar awning?) while parked.  Thus, someone that has short commutes (<40 miles) between campsites could possibly do so without buying much (if any) gasoline.  I know I know, watts "in" vs watts "out" will have...

No--you need to read it again.

    The Future of Camper Vans?

It probably will be pricey....but could be a big 'game changer' to conventional vans: http://www.viamotors.com/vehicles/electric-van/

Anyone find a decent bike cover?

I've found that a large BBQ cover can be modified/cut in the back and placed over the bikes (two).   It's a bit of a pain and you have to attach bungees to keep it in place.   I've since gone to covering just the seats (plastic bag first and then a nylon/stuff sack) and the handle bars.  For...

    Electric Underfloor Heating?

Respectively disagree.  Properly done, it might make a lot more sense than heating the air (propane heater, etc.).   Heating the air is actually quite inefficient--as the heat is lost when the air is ventilated (vent, air leaks, etc.).   A well insulated van with underfloor heating is much less...

    SunFlair hot water test

MW another trick you can try is to place a reflector on the ground (flat) in front of the oven.  This could be mylar covered cardboard, reflectix or even a silver windshield shade.  When the sun is at a low angle--such as late afternoon, mornings and winter low-angle sun locations, this can...

    SunFlair hot water test

Good data.  Some heat will be lost due to conductive air currents inside the oven--between the pot and the outside reflector & window.  You can minimize this by adding an oven roasting bag...

    EV Van

I know this is not practical currently but in 5-10 years vans like this will likely be more common--and possibly cheaper as competition kicks in. https://electrek.co/2017/01/13/renault-all-electric-commercial-vehicles/ For those that could afford the initial expense (LESS-CheapRVLiving.com ?)...

[split] Run a Microwave off batteries?

My experience with an inverter is a bit different than some of these comments.  I've been running a toaster and microwave (not at same time) for 2-8 minutes/day when camping....about 3-4 months a year.  I currently don't have solar but usually change campgrounds every 2-3 days....thus recharge...
