Do I need healthcare insurance for 20 months?

I am an RN. I once listened to the process of a man dying from a thoracic aneurysm. From no insurance. He may have died anyway, but there's a good possibility not. We were in a small town ER and so he couldn't be treated there. They could not verify his insurance, however. Though the ER doc kept...

73% theoretical solarpanel watt max output ONE HOUR after sunrise w/ side solar panel

The charge controllers don't necessarily match what I needed for the solar panels, but I'll list what I have here. We were boondocking on BLM land while we were doing the solar installs on the trailer and Hubby's van and had to buy what was available that would work. I bought several Victron...

73% theoretical solarpanel watt max output ONE HOUR after sunrise w/ side solar panel

Clarification: Hubby was reading the post and he said "Honey, you forgot to mention that we're running the three fridges (one in each unit)on solar 24/7". Ted

73% theoretical solarpanel watt max output ONE HOUR after sunrise w/ side solar panel

P.S. I studied at Sternwake University. He no longer posts on CRVL, but his legacy lives on in the archives here. Seek and he shall find the info. Ted

73% theoretical solarpanel watt max output ONE HOUR after sunrise w/ side solar panel

[attachment=22602 Good day folks, [color=#000000]I've been meaning to post this for a while. We sit here at the Texas Canyon rest area this morning with the van side solar panel facing the morning sun.  We're drinking coffee from the keurig electric coffeemaker and using the microwave and other...

    B2b chargers?

I Have the CTEK D250S and SmartPass on two vehicles. They work well and though we have separate charge controllers for the permanent solar, I have plugs set up for portable solar. Which I haven't used since I went on the road in 10/2017. Even cloudy and rainy days I get back to full by mid...

Passport America - Yeh or Nah?

I used Passport America multiple times on my last trip to and from Florida. It paid for itself several times over. But, we did use parks as we were on "vacation", unlike now where we'll be squatting during the winter cold. I have Escapees and will let it lapse. Ted

How do you toast your bread

I use a Camp A Toaster stovetop toaster every day. Ya gotta pay attention and it's an art trying to keep the smoke alarm from blaring vs opening up and letting cold air pour in. But, I have proper toast. That's worth a while lot of inconvenience. Ted

    Escapees survey

If you look at the general demographics of Escapees, and you read their boards, the majority of members aren't living in a van by the river.  Thar's a lot of money being spent by them. Ted

    Stove top heater accessory thingy

Spaceman, I've used the pressure cooker. Works great! And it's a large thermal mass which will continue to put out heat for hours after you turn off the stove. I used it in the PNW one Junuary (felt like January in June) when condensation was dripping off the ceiling. In spite of propane putting...

What is the easiest Divorce Route

I've been divorced four times, widowed once, so I consider myself an expert. The easiest and cheapest was with a paralegal. Ted

    Eggs Refrigerate or Not

I knew some boat people who didnt hsve refrigeration. When going on a long passage, they would dip the eggs in paraffin. I've gotten sick several times from contaminated foods, so I'm pretty neurotic about food safety. I've gotten food poironing multiple times as I used to be quite an...

Anyone diabetic ... what do you eat?

I'm a Type 2 diabetic. But I have stomach issues from previous surgeries (adhesions) that really limit the amount I can eat at a time. So I get in my protein first and the rest of the food I pretty much eat what appeals to me. Meat doesn't sit too well, I often end up puking it up, so I eat a...

    12 volt TV's

I have a 28" 12v Jensen that came with the trailer. I use it exclusively with my Roku to watch videos. The sound quality is abysmal. But otherwise, it's okay. It's way too big for my little 21' trailer as it sits right at the foot of the bed. Ted

    Traveling and pain management

K9, Yes,yes, yes, yes. My pain has been significantly attenuated since I got on the road. Ask Hubby. He's heard a lot less bitching about it. I can take care of myself better minus all the stressors of maintaining a S&B house. And if I'm not happy with where I am, I can split. Hot springs help a...

    Traveling and pain management

Thanks Dr.Wolfess, I happen to have a doc who specifically does not do a UDS. He also still uses paper charts. He's close to retirement, so who knows? Besides, I didn't say that I am using mmj. ;-) I'm of the philosphity that it's better to ask forgiveness than permission. Besides, even at...

    BLM land

I've boondocked on a particular BLM spot max 49 days in one spot. I asked other campers about the 14 day limit and was informed that the Ranger didn't bother you unless others complained. It was "don't ask, don't tell". And no, I won't tell you where it was, except that it was very close to a...

Victron Energy BlueSolar MPPT 100/30 Charge Controller

Not beautiful, but I have multiple panels of different, incompatible sizes. Works for me and I love the Bluetooth so I can micromanage things. This was before I cleaned it up, but I have no photo resizer app on this phone to put in the finished job. Sorry about the double photo. Ted
