Best four cylinder stick shift pickup

I had a Nissan Frontier pickup with the four-cylinder engine and manual transmission for seventeen years. It had 187,000 miles on it and was still running strong when a lifted full size pickup took it out in an accident. It was a great truck and I miss it. I think a Frontier would be an...

    Thoughts on the Alpicool Refrigerators?

I have an Alpicool C15. I've had it for about a year-and-a-half. So far I've had two minor issues with it. First, the 12 volt plug occasionally vibrates loose from the socket where I plug it in. I've been meaning to change this to a different type of connector, but haven't gotten around to it...

Can't Do RTR 2020 Due to Sticks & Bricks Issues

My Home Owners' Association is replacing the copper pipes in all the units in my condo complex with PEX piping. The contractor needs access to the units and my building just happens to be scheduled for the first week of the RTR. Unfortunately, I'm limited in how much time my employer will...

Sleeping in a 2008 hyundai accent

I part time in a Kia Soul. While it's not exactly the same, the size at least, is comparable. Here's a link to my build thread, where I've documented the entire build process for my road tripper. Five years in, the build is still a work in progress. I make improvements here and there as time...

Would you advise a Boondocker in your neighborhood?

I tend to view advice as a gift. When people give me advice, I listen and think about it, but ultimately I'm going to make my own decision. It's very rare that I actually give advice, but I firmly believe that when I do, whether or not people follow my advice is none of my business.

subaru update - power and space

I spent a little more than a year working on my solar setup. I purchased parts and supplies when I had the money. I worked on the installation when I had the time. I found that the large purchases were easy to plan for. I would save up until I could afford to buy X item, then make the purchase...

    Alphicool sale

I've got the Alpicool C15, which is nearly identical to the C20. It just has a different lid. I've had it for a year and while it has a few minor quirks, on the whole I've been pretty happy with it.

    hatchback traveler saying hi :D

I'm not sure how much would work for Accent, but here's a link to the build thread for my Kia Soul. https://vanlivingforum.com/showthread.php?tid=9848 Hopefully it'll at least provide some inspiration for your own ideas.

subaru update - power and space

I'm not a full timer, but I've installed solar on my Kia Soul. I have a build thread that documents what I've done with my setup, including a few missteps. Here's a link to page 7, which is where I began to document my solar installation. https://vanlivingforum.com/showthread.php?tid=9848&page=7

Grounding a solar system - What parts do I ground?

Grounding is one of the most misunderstood concepts of electrical wiring, even among professional electricians. On the DC side, grounding refers to running a wire from the negative battery terminal to the chassis of the vehicle. On cars, vans, trucks, etc., this is done primarily as a cost...

    emergency room treatment

Back in 2005, I ended up in the emergency room with Appendicitis. My appendectomy and roughly 27 hour hospital stay resulted in a $34,000 bill. My insurance paid $7,800 to the hospital and this was considered Paid-in-Full. My total out of pocket was $310. Somehow, the math just doesn't add up here.

    You Ain't Right Club

I've just finished a 64 day work week. My last day off was July 4th. This has been my summer schedule for the last 25 years. On the plus side though, I love my job! I go to work to play!

What is the recent (2019) word on refridgerators

I have an Alpicool C15, 12volt fridge. I've had it for about a year. For the most part I've found it to be pretty reliable. The only real issue I've had is that occasionally, it gets stuck in the on cycle and I end up with a freezer instead of a refrigerator. The few times this has happened...

    My Road Tripper

I had to repair my solar power system recently. My battery wasn't charging. It took me three months to find the time to spend an hour getting to the wiring, diagnosing the problem and repairing it. It was just a connection that had vibrated loose between the charge controller and the battery...

Tri-Fold Sleepers Whatcha got? You like it?

Here's what I use. It's just a 2 inch thick, tri-fold mat from Walmart. I paid $40 for it. It works fairly well for me when I'm on the road.

    Chrysler Pacifica hybrid

I test drove one at the Anaheim Auto Show last fall. Overall, I liked it. Looking down the road a few years when I'm finally ready to put my Kia Soul out to pasture, the Pacifica hybrid, might be a good balance between my need for a good commuter vehicle and my desire for a little more room...
