Where do you go in the summer?

I spent a month in NW Wyoming and SW Montana this last summer and absolutely loved it. Beautiful, beautiful country. Great temperatures. Lots to see and do (if you're into the outdoors, which I am.) Tons of wildlife. I'll definitely be heading back next year.

    Quartzsite Off Road Atlas

It says there on that image that Cyndi posted that six "guzzlers (game waterers)" are included on the maps. I have to confess my ignorance here. Why are these points of interest? For wildlife watching? Watering horses maybe? Something else?

    Alaska vehicle...suburban 4x4?

If you're not interested in getting a truck and camper like Bob said, I think a 4x4 Suburban would be a great choice. Camping in the back there is definitely doable, and there's definitely something to be said about the simplicity of it. Warm sleeping bags, insulation (like you said), and the...

The official 2017 RTR event page has been posted on

The CRVL Gatherings page has been updated too with the date and directions. No schedule as yet.

    Self inflating beds.

I also have and actively use this mattress, and I can highly recommend it. It's great.

    How to travel slow?

Hot springs are a great places to slow down for a bit. And +1 for Roadside America. I love that site. I also recommend getting a good state atlas. I love my GPS as much as the next guy, but a paper atlas is a great way to look at potential routes between two places and see what points of...

    2017 RTR in Quartzsite

I'd love to. It'd be my first one. I spent a month traveling around Arizona earlier this year but just missed the RTR.

    Internet Device Recommendation

Not necessarily. Not all plans and carriers allow tethering or sharing data between devices. Mine doesn't. As others have said, a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with your Android phone will do the trick and be the simplest option. If you want something that feels a bit more like a "real"...

Is it annoying to remove the curtain rods each time you want to get at something in the drawers?

    Van-Tramp adventures 2016

Very cool! I paid a quick visit to Craters of the Moon once but need to get back and do more there. Never heard of Hell's Half Acre before. Thanks for pointing it out.

    Covering Car Windows When Parked

+1 for black poster board. It's what I use for my rear window and the little porthole side windows. Effective, super cheap and easy to make, and they don't take up a ton of space.

    SUV RVing Adventures

Climbing Mt. Hinman in the Cascades (7,492 feet) I left Wyoming and Montana behind and headed to Washington to see my brother. He wanted to climb Mt. Hinman, a major peak in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness region in the Cascades. We drove up there after he got off work on Friday, hiked for several...

Thanks! The camera is the Nikon Coolpix S7000. And yes, that's a Tarptent Contrail, which is no longer sold and has been replaced by the ProTrail. Depends what you're looking for. I have a 2011 Toyota RAV4, which is definitely at the smaller end of the SUV spectrum. If you need a ton of space...

    SUV RVing Adventures

Do it! I have so much fun in mine. Bigger rigs definitely have certain advantages, but there's not much that can beat an SUV as far as ease and simplicity go. I've spent about 60 nights in mine so far this year and couldn't be happier with the setup.
