    inverter buzz when off

yeah, i just noticed this today. i have a 1000W (2000 peak) MSW harbor freight inverter and noticed a buzz. i turned it off and still heard the noise through the inverter. it's at the front of the unit where things plug in. it's quiet, maybe i never noticed before. doesn't matter if nothing is...

    Was siphoning gas, now guns

this happened at a company i worked for. they left one of the vans parked on the street overnight. in the morning all they found was a long hose from the filler tube, an empty gas can, a small puddle of gas, and a bigger puddle of puke. it was pretty easy to piece together what happened!

    Hola! from The Sunshine State

^agreed. some people think the danger of gassing batteries is overblown, and i'm one of them. distilled water is preferred, but regular would work ok too. i've had my flooded batts. for 6 months now and haven't needed to add any water yet.

Any questions about the structural integrity of high tops?

i'm having trouble picturing any high top van rolling completely over. IMO, odds are it will fall on its side and slide to a stop. they're so tall it seems like it would take a lot of energy to flip them upside down. sure it's possible, just seems unlikely.

    RV living in Manhattan

"I'm considering living in a van in Manhattan for my first year while I pay down my student loans. I was thinking I could get a monthly parking pass in a garage instead of rent, walk to work, get a gym membership. Does anyone see any problem with the parking garage idea? I wouldn't be in the van...

Your thoughts on this 2002 Ford van

maybe check the service records to see if the timing chain has been done. with that many miles it would be way overdue. it's a big job, but it may have been done already with the other engine work mentioned.

    newer vans?

^ok, fair enough :). i was just under mine today, removing the A/C compressor now i see it needs radiator hoses too but hey, i knew it was gonna be kinda needy when i got it and i'm handy enough with a wrench. besides, a decent van for under a G is worth the extra effort, IMO

I am checking this out today .

looks nice. some shots underneath would have been good, though. didn't know they made conversions like that. mine is a traveler edition too but has none of that camper stuff, LOL.

    newer vans?

i just paid a few hundred for mine, it's sorta beat-up but the drivetrain is solid. speaking of paint, some of mine actually washed off when i washed it, LOL. another advantage of an older van is that there's a ton of info. online about them. any problem i'm trying to diagnose has already been...

Thoughts on '97 Dodge Ram 1500

i'm pretty sure that van would have a 'V8 MAGNUM' badge on the front fender if it had a V8. i don't see a badge so it's probably a 6. something else to look out for: i noticed when i was van shopping that a lot of these '90's Rams had an A/C issue. when the A/C runs, it drips water onto the...

    Solar panel tilt?

harbor freight also has a tilt kit, but the box says it only works for panels with a plastic frame, whatever that means

    Solar panel tilt?

peacetara, you could check out my build thread. i set mine up so it can tilt, all with cheap hardware from home depot. i just put door hinges on the front and the rear nuts can be unscrewed. but i would have to put something under the rear of it to hold it when tilted, it doesn't stay up on its...

    Planet Fitness

right now i'm deciding between planet fitness and anytime fitness. their websites don't really have any pictures or much info about themselves. it's good to know planet fitness (or most of them) are open 24 hours too.

What is the attraction of stealth camping?

hi, i have lived in NYC for most of my life and the bottom line for me is, 'it's just more comfortable for me'. it seems strange for people to get that sometimes. for me, it's normal. i can sleep no problem with cars passing by and people walking by, talking. when i've visited relatives and...

    E-250 stealth conversion

excellent build. what's that on top of the roof in front of the big vent?

fantastic vent and solar install to conversion van

well, i got the roof put back together. this is the bulk of the solar system. i found an old wooden box i made back in wood shop class long time ago, works almost perfect for this. luckily, an electrician shop near me had 4AWG welding cable. the rest is 8AWG. fuse on the side is 100AMPS, IIRC...

fantastic vent and solar install to conversion van

it's called 'fantastic vent'. http://www.fantasticvent.com/ i just got the cheap model (it was still 100 bucks), but it seems great so far. pulls a ton of air. i spray painted it black. looks more discreet and matches the van better

    plug-in watt/voltage detector

sorry if this has been mentioned, but i just saw this thing at lowes. seems like a good device for us. i might get one. http://www.lowes.com/pd_239794-48019-THP103_0__?productId=3128297&Ntt=appliance+voltage+detector&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dappliance%2Bvoltage%2Bdetector&facetInfo=
