I am checking this out today .

You could have trouble staying is some of the national parks. I had a pop-up camper on my pick up. Because it had canvas sides on the pop-up portion, it was considered a complete soft side. In bear country they are not allowed. Also, I lived in my pop-up for almost a year. In hard rains, it...

What does everybody do for work/money?

Beware the temp agencies (Kelly, Manpower, etc). My wife was a traveling nurse. Since these were short term assignments, I did a lot of temp work. I had a stint in Austin, TX with one. We clicked so well I ended up staying for 20 years!!

    Truck topper advantages

Take a walk through this topic: https://vanlivingforum.com/Thread-Thinking-of-buying-a-utility-shell-for-a-stealth-adventure-vehicle-camper Telcobilly put together a pretty neat rig. The shell is not what one could consider a traditioinal shell but it sure is neat.

    address - still concerned...

We have been using a mail forwarding address in South Dakota for years now. No issues on anything. We are not in SS mode yet, but I do know that a lot of retirees use them. In SD, TX and FL, po boxes are considered legal addresses. We vote, pay taxes, register vehicles, buy insurance and...

Thinking of buying a utility shell for a stealth/adventure vehicle camper.

Good site. A little OT question: Who do you drive for? My wife and I used to drive team for Werner, a LOT of years ago.

Welcome back, Telcobilly. Been wondering what happened to you.

    Recommendations for Austin, TX?

Check out McKinney Falls State Park in east Austin. Take William Canon east until it ends. That is McKinney Falls Parkway. Turn left and go north until you see the park on the left side of the road. We camped there many times and also volunteered there for four months two years ago. I know...

    Anybody else near Austin?

There is a mobile home park in the southwest corner of the 183 & 71 interchange that has some RVs. Check them out.

How many people keep a large (20LB) propane tank *inside* the van?

Where did you get that fork lift carrier? It may be exactly what I am looking for.

    Camp Host N GA

Telecommuting is OK??? How does one camp host via telecommuting? If you talk to them this would be an interesting question. Otherwise, it sounds pretty neat.

    NearPerfect in SoCal

I want to be clear: you work 20 hours per month (that's five hours per week) and you PAY $200 per month for 10 amps and water only? Is there a shower? What do they charge if you are not working for them? I gotta say in my 6+ years of full time RVing, this is one of the worst deals I've...

single bike rack for the front of a van

I like the front trailer hitch receiver idea too. One thought on carrying a bike on the front. It will get really dirty. If you move around in the warmer months it will get covered with bugs. Is there some way you could put it on the back of your van? If there is a spare tire back there...

What about boondocking in small Texas towns?

Many of the small Texas towns have an HEB grocery store. Many are 24/7. Try their parking lot. I have never seen signs stating anything regarding overnighters. I know Fredricksburg has one. Give it a try.

    Workamper

My wife and I were interviewed and featured in their magazine two summers ago in Yellowstone. Our summer jobs are listed there (Delaware North Corporation). It is a great tool for looking for jobs. Was your question about 70 yo's regarding job opportunities for that age group or are you...

Recumbent Expert (I ride the fastest production bike in the world!!) Shoot me your questions!

How are those full fairinged bikes in cross winds? When we started doing some touring we were surprised how much we got blown around when fully loaded (panniers front and back with more on back rack). For calm days I bet they are a lot of fun.

Jumped into the "stealth" van life and am mostly disalusioned

Jack - I did not see if you are interested in traveling or being somewhat static. If you are OK with being a bit static, check with any rv park or campground. Most are usually looking for what are called "work campers". These are people living in RVs, vans etc and they work for a nominal...

    Paying for a Parking Spot?

I think you are putting yourself and your hosts at a bit of a risk by dwelling onsite in a city or town. I would check with the city ordinances. The neighbors will certainly know what is going on. If it is a cool neighborhood you will have a good time. If they are like most, you will have...

    Chevy Sun Sport Van

The Sun Sport looks similar to the Falcon. Google "falcon rv" and see what you get. I had some friends who had one and they loved it. Good Luck!!
