The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Oh well .... I guess we have a bit longer to decide just how to get the couch into the bus. Finances were not as expected, and we will not be getting things from Storage yet. I will keep trying to find some plywood locally for free, and see what happens as I try to finish the interior wood projects.

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Oooh .... great idea. I just need to order 110 of those, and charge my cordless battery really well. I went back to the bus today and worked some. It has cold and VERY humid and rainy. Lovely weather ! In between the cold rain showers, I was able to cut the 2x4"s and get a lot of the bed frame...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

I'll be going to the bus to work on it shortly, but figured I would update this morning before I did. We have now went through several sets of magnets to hold the curtains up, and they are just not working. The ones we have now are strong enough, they are hard to get to release when you want...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Hi ya Patrick ... The couch is standard sized, but it IS one which reclines. So it is somewhat plump. But that side door is probably not over 26 - 28 inches wide.

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

As I said ... Photos by Wednesday ... LOL:P So here are the photos, which show kind of where we are at. I will be working every day this week to get as much as I can finished on the interior. Because if all goes as planned, I will be getting our belongings from an East TX storage facility this...

Time to paint the exterior ..

This is exactly what I have been thinking. Thanks for the advice.

Time to paint the exterior ..

Yuck ... uh uh, no. LOL I plan on simply pressure washing the paint, scuff the paint and remove any rust, wipe down with mineral spirits, and PAINT an udiluted coat of paint. And hope like hell that covers.

Time to paint the exterior ..

Hmm ... So if I roll on a single un-thinned coat, this will take weeks to dry ?

Time to paint the exterior ..

Ahh ... good to know about the Acetone. However, should I expect it to still cover in one coat, if I add the Acetone like that ? Thanks

Time to paint the exterior ..

Hmm ... I am not sure I understand why I would cut the paint with Acetone ? I would MUCH prefer to cover it with one coat. Sure, that is not the best way, but time is very important, and my health probably prevents me from rolling on 3 or 4 coats. And paint thinner to remove the rattle can...

Time to paint the exterior ..

Well Patrick ... the exterior paint photos will be a few weeks most likely. I now have to figure out how to get this bus prepped for paint, while I am at my weakest point LOL.

Time to paint the exterior ..

Sanding was never an optional thing. I plan on sanding it to 220 only. I was just hoping the pressure washer would remove the white spray paint rather completely. I don't know how well that is stuck over the original yellow. I plan on using XO Rust in gallons, because they have a blue I want...

Time to paint the exterior ..

And unless missed it, there is not a section for it :dodgy: So here is my issue ... Someone painted my bus partially, before I received it. And they used some kind of spray paint, which is now partially peeling at the edges, and in other places where it is not peeling, it feels slightly...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Well ... the weather was beautiful and warm today. Still all I could make in my weakened state was about 2 hours of work. Painted the dash. Put up two wall panels, glued down insulation board in bed area, put up two more shelves, and left for the day. Only Percocet and 420 is keeping me going...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

We planned on painting. But not with 100% humidity. We are just on a razor's edge right now, concerning if the H1N1 Flu we got on Christmas Eve is going to turn into Pneumonia, Pluerisy, or both ..... Or if we will ever start feeling well again. Since that is where we are health wise, I did...

Are Time Consuming Conversions a Mistake?

Well ... yes and no. Although I am new to this as well, it is something I spent a lot of time deciding myself. And to me, it all boils down to these things : I would never choose a questionable vehicle to do an in-depth conversion on. My bus is a 1985, but in very nice mechanical shape...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Thanks guys. I feel for you Patrick. This is as sick as I have ever been, with the one exception of Pnuemonia, Pleurisy, two broken ribs, and a collapsed left lung at the same time 4 years ago. At one point I pled for death, with this Flu LOL. Since I am making progress on the bus so slowly at...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Wow .... Upate time I guess. Not much progress since Xmas. My wife and I both came down with H1N1 Flu on Xmas Eve. I am just now starting to feel reasonable again, though very weak still. I plan on doing some simple interior painting tomorrow. And if my strength ever returns, I am going to start...
