Some thoughts from an old mind...

Although I'm late to this, I just want to say very nice thread Bri. I've been here reminded about staying positive and how important that is, as well as staying kind. Very useful. Have decided to TRY to stay away from political subjects as they get too hurtful, even with those...

    Hi sid,

I'm so sorry that things are tough right now. I definitely know what you mean! Do you have Google Earth on your system? If you do, or if you would be willing to download it, there are some layers that folks have put together that show different types of...

    Hi David,

I saw the pics of your van when you started and what you've accomplished, and I must say that it looks quite nice! Well done. And pickles!!! Makes me homesick for the bread and butters I did NOT make this year. Your dills looked wonderful. I...

    Insects

I recommend cultivating one pointed focus, a zen thing. You are not the pain. The pain and itching is an illusion. The mosquito is a trick of the monkey mind. There is no mosquito. What mosquito?
<img src="/images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif" alt=""...

    HVAC costs $600 monthly?

I'm in Florida, and in our first home here I used an old school bus as my art studio. It was parked under and between some live oaks so that it was always in the shade. I spent a lot of time in it in the summer because it was cooler than in the house with the clunker AC unit.&nbsp...

    cheapest budget

    IGBT,

80% on rent IS pretty bad, but it is the way that many are forced to live, as landlords raise rents and businesses do not raise wages.

I remember living in Santa Fe, NM in the mid-90s. My husband worked in an art gallery, and I worked for a construction firm as...

    The Coleman Oven...

    SoulRaven,

I hear you on the space issue. I'm enough of a baking nut (not necessarily in that order) to want the abilities that come with regular temps. But I've seen your photo with the van in back, and I can see that space would be the issue for you. The Coleman...

    The Coleman Oven...

    Hi SoulRaven,

If you haven't bought it yet, you might look at this one:
St. Paul mercantile oven

Only my opinion, but I've owned the Coleman oven for many years, and it's OK and will do...

Soon to be homeless by choice to save some money

    Hi nooneleft.

Welcome!

Please keep us updated on what you are doing and where you are, when you can. I'd love more input on 'rough camping' by folks who are doing that. Will you have a bike or another mode of transport?

Light cargo trailer behind a 1983 Toyota New Horizon

After doing some really obsessive browsing I got onto the teardrops and tiny travel trailers forum (tnttt.com) and saw a thread for 'foamies'.

These are TTs that are made of multiple layers of...

Light cargo trailer behind a 1983 Toyota New Horizon

A teardrop at 200#???? Wow! Mine weighted in at 550 and that was stripped to bare bones!

I'd love to see a pic. I can't imagine that just the bare trailer would be much less than that. I don't suppose he has a blog, Bri? <img...

Light cargo trailer behind a 1983 Toyota New Horizon

    Hi Jack,

When I mentioned fiberglass trailers, I wasn't talking about things like Casitas. I was talking about the kind of little trailer you can see at Harbor Freight or some other places: a motorcycle cargo trailer. sorry if I didn't use the correct words - that...

Light cargo trailer behind a 1983 Toyota New Horizon

If you are trailering just for storage, there are some modern fiberglass trailers that are very light, are designed to be towed by a motorcycle, and thus may be worth looking into for your smaller Toyota engine. Just a thought.

PS - I used to have a Toyota dolphin RV. Miss...

Light cargo trailer behind a 1983 Toyota New Horizon

    Hi,

I can only talk about my own experiences in a ford focus wagon towing a teardrop trailer. The 'official' position on that is no towing, as well. But the specs on the car gave 1000 lbs max towable. Have you looked at the specs of your Toyota?

The...

    Blender....

Vitamix!!! My husband and I used to do the Whole Life Expos for our little biz, and we made friends with the folks that were selling the Vita-Mixes. You see the same folks over and over at these kinds of Fairs. Anyway, every day, Dave knew the exact time that the Vitamix People...

    Hammock In a Minivan

Lots of detractors of hammocks on this site. But they are a maritime tradition and many people in 'other' cultures use them as their bed of choice. I'm told the key to sleeping in a hammock in a cold climate is to put a couple layers of egg crate foam or a down comforter beneath you.

    Fabric YAY!!

One of my best friends just told me she is getting married! Yay! She is almost 70 years old. I must make her a quilt, but I think that since this is her 4th marriage (!) I'll bypass the Wedding Ring. I'm thinking a nice Log cabin - keeping those ol' home fires burning...
