My only tip about cockroaches is don't step on them to kill them. If you step on them, you'll kill the cockroach but if it's a lady cockroach you could end up with eggs on your shoes that will then hatch and you'll have more cockroaches. The eggs are too small to squish with your shoes.

What ya need is a van-cozy. Like you wrap a teapot in to keep it warm. Big old warm wrap to keep the heat (or cool) inside. Like a car cover people get for a posh car, only insulated.

They do make them for adults too.  Mostly for people that have difficulties feeding themselves, or problems eating.  They're used a lot in nursing homes and hospitals, particularly for geriatric patients.
