    How much van to buy?

I really looked at those, too. I know some don't care about mpg, but for me it matters, and all the reports that I could find on the NIssan NV pointed to average 12-13 mpg; which for me was a deal breaker.

How do you value$ a conversion van?

I hear you, thank you. I plan on pretty much gutting the back out. Might even cover a window or two. All the chairs and benches in back would come out and be sold. About the height. I'm 6'7" and so no matter what van I get I'm not going to get to stand up. I figure guys are living out of stock...

How do you value$ a conversion van?

This one is an "Explorer Van" conversion. That one is not listed on the RVvalue site, though.

Living Out of a Van Is the New American Dream

I'm dreaming of it anyway. It's painful to think that there is a chance I'm just falling prey to some hipster trend. If you have been dreaming of something for 10 years it's likely not that, though.

Building a cabin on a flatbed truck?

Your post led me to some research that led here, http://www.instructables.com/id/Poor-Mans-Fiberglass-make-nearly-anything-weatherp/?ALLSTEPS#intro Thanks.

How do you value$ a conversion van?

Anyone open to a pm with a link to the van in question. Guess I'd like to keep it close to my vest.

    DIY high top?

Getting all my questions out in one burst here today.  I'll start off by saying that I respect that this is somewhat of a hair brained idea. I see a lot of do it yourself truck campers. One person made the sides out of weight relieved birch ply and then glued insulation and then aluminum sheet...

How do you value$ a conversion van?

It seems when I run these type of vans through Kelly Blue Book I get numbers that are much lower then what a private party is asking. For example; A 2002, 66,000 mile, GMC Savana with high top, tv, all that etc, asking price is $14000. I run that van through KBB with all the options, power...

Noobie question about Van vs Class B

What is a "SWB" passenger van? Is that just a stock passenger like the Savana posted above. What does the SWB stand for? Also, when you all say "Camper Van" do you specifically mean the class b vans, or just a conversion with a high top?

Noobie question about Van vs Class B

That's helpful. Thanks. Sounds like a used Class B is a option for me. I can do all the work. I've done up to code total home rehabs. I'd be taking out the old fridge and microwave, etc. Probably much of the cabinets, too. What catches my eye about the Class B van is that, as mentioned above...

Noobie question about Van vs Class B

Hello, I'm still trying to figure out which way to go with my purchase. I very much appreciate the forum and the opportunity to get other perspectives. My goal is to get somewhere in the southwest and learn how to live in a van/rv. I also have a goal of making it to the RTR in January. Seems...

    Veterans Living a Nomadic Lifestyle

I'm a vet and one thing I'm grateful for is having health care through the VA. Heath care is a huge expense for most people and mine just so happens to be free. I know the VA is a hot button issue for some. I've been pleased with all the care I've gotten through them. I also take care of my...

    Dimensions of conversion van

You would almost be able to stand upright in one of the new Promaster vans. Their cargo area height is 65" on the standard van and it's not too hard to find them with the higher roofs.

    Comparison Shopping (Transit/Promaster/Sprinter)

hmm. Something is not adding up on these measurements. The Promaster is considerably taller inside the cargo area then an Express. I have the Express at 53" tall and a standard Promaster at 65" So, over a foot taller inside, which is a lot when one is a tall person.

    This is a tidy van,

http://www.thisiscarpentry.com/2011/07/15/van-racking/ Neat space in a lot of ways. Thought you all might enjoy.

    Your thougths on this,

https://stlouis.craigslist.org/ctd/5595318304.html At 180,000 miles do you just accept that you will be dropping in a new or rebuilt engine for around $3500 into a van like this and still figure you are doing good for around $12,000?

    68 vehicle mpg mods

The front air dam was cool, looks simple to do, too.  Thought the "remove alternator" one was really interesting. There was some mention about solar or not really solar compatible, but I'll have to give it a closer look.

    68 vehicle mpg mods

I like the DIY spirit of the ecomodder.com site, and a number of these mods are cheap and easy to do. Food for thought, and maybe you will enjoy looking though them, too, http://ecomodder.com/forum/fuel-economy-mpg-modifications.php

    Comparison Shopping (Transit/Promaster/Sprinter)

I've looking quite closely at that one, the promaster full size. The folks on the PM forum seem quite happy with them but who knows. I don't like that one would have to find a Business Link dealership just to work on them. That is scary for someone who wants to really drive around. That they...

    Where to find a van

I'm really liking cargurus.com I find it helps to use google to type the vehicle type and then the word "cargurus.com" That is quicker for me then using their search tool.
