Van Hasn't Run For 8 Years, Starting It

I just spoke to the owner of a local body shop.  He has 30 years experience and we talked for about 45 minutes. He will come out and look at the rust for $45.  It's worth that to potentially prevent wasting thousands.   After talking he told me to take pictures and he would come out only if...

Van Hasn't Run For 8 Years, Starting It

That's interesting SternWake and looks doable and cheap I think this big leaky thing is part of the transmission.  It doesn't look doable. How serious is this, how expensive to fix and how hard to fix? Thanks

It's the well not the hose.  I said hose so that it would not be implied I had a bathroom and kitchen sink.  Plus it is a hose

Is it safe for the frame to tie onto it to pull the van to a better spot?

Van Hasn't Run For 8 Years, Starting It

I am thinking about it and doing the math. For the math I am estimating $4,000. I hope that should cover some question mark items on the list above, a windshield and a cheap paint job. The van has to be white for my stealth plan. For $4,000 I don’t think I could get a van better than what I...

Van Hasn't Run For 8 Years, Starting It

The rust just seems like the paint is pealing with a little rust on the back of it.  The metal seems fine. But I did look into what HighDesertRanger was talking about.  In a picture it looked like a part had been ripped out of the A horn.  Not just rusted out. $300 for scrap metal Moving the...

Van Hasn't Run For 8 Years, Starting It

There wasn't enough light for weeds to grow under it.  Some did grow up through the busted grill. Any other opinions on the weeds.  I never even considered them.

Thank you for the help. I'm sorry you felt deceived.  I probably didn't mention it because I felt ashamed that I created this problem.

I'd be thrilled if I could treat the rust and drive it around the country for 2 to 3 years. I would upgrade to a Nissan NV2500 maybe.

Van Hasn't Run For 8 Years, Starting It

Great replys. It only has 77,000 miles on it. I put about 50,000 of them on it. All were driving around the country. Yeah...I'm the one that parked it. But before that I took very good care of it. The grill damage was from hitting a deer in downtown Davidson NC. It jumped out from behind...

Van Hasn't Run For 8 Years, Starting It

The rust took the wind out of my sails. I made a firm decision on a course of action....repeatedly and in different directions. Even considered motorcycle dwelling briefly. I am in North Carolina, North of Charlotte. I am not too far into the van to walk away. But it is a bird in the hand...

Van Hasn't Run For 8 Years, Starting It

How much life does it have in it, do you think? In a year or two of living in it I could save enough to get another van. I can take more pictures after work tomorrow if needed
