here's what I expect for electrics in my conversion van

Greetings frenchie and welcome to the forums. I'll chime in on the van size as I have similar. My wife and I have a 1/2 ton (1500) Chevy AWD van with regular wheelbase/body...so ~10 ft behind the cab to build. We had to plan carefully as our van's GVWR is 7300lbs/~3300kg. When going out on a...

Controlling unwanted insects coming into van window

Nicely done Brad! My MacGirlver-Wife velcro'd no-see-um on the inside of the driver window and we roll the windows up to ~2" from top so the WeatherTech window guards do their thing keeping the rain out. We will be switching over to utilizing screw-in-snaps next season on the screen.

    Q. Container size A. Currently we are using 5 gallon jugs. BUT...we will be switching over to ~2.5>3 gallon cuz we ain't gettin' any younger : )  Q. How Much? A. Well...my wife and I are fairly thrifty on the water use. For a five day period we will typically go through: ~8 gallons of...

    Mobile Cooking Apparatus & Techniques

my wife and I've been cooking on a single burner Iwatani 12K BTU Butane stove for over 5 years. Clean and easy to regulate. On _slow cooker_ we utilize a thermal cooker by "Saratoga Jacks". Simply get your crock-pot-recipe type meal up to boil, keep it there for ~10 minutes and then take the 7...

    Paper plates

as mentioned elsewhere... my wife and I full time in a 40ft 5th wheel and go out on monthly week-long adventures in our van conversion. We do use paper plates at _home_ quite often. It was one of those silly things I said back in ~2010 when we were planning to sell the farm and move into...

    Water filter Vs bottled

eDJ... thx for the informative post. Have it bookmarked for future use. One thing my wife and I use is a "Gravity Filter" to pre-filter river water before filling our 5 gallon jugs in the van. We will then do a double filter whammy and put that water through our 1 gallon Berkey water filter...

    FOGGY WINDOWS

Absolutely agree. And while our rig has apparently faired well for whatever reason (OK we are NEAT FREAKS!), the cons you mention are real possibilities for any build. Thom

I've slept in my van for two nights now (and improvements)

Hey THX for the VanKudos.   And for the record : ) I'd love to take credit for my van's layout too... but most of that rightly goes to my wonderful MacGirlver of a bride! Thom

[split] How do I install a vent in a Fiberglass Roof

:   ) everything He said . For our build we have a 24" fiberine roof and a ~3" drop ceiling. Here is a picture of the original Fantastic fan (now thankfully!! replaced with a MaxxFan) with the insulation sandwich before installing the headliner (seen in the photo after this one) : Here is...

I've slept in my van for two nights now (and improvements)

Your build is looking good! Excellent design on your bath/shower closet. Ours is behind the two-door closet on the street side just behind the driver's seat in our RB/RW chevy high top van. : ) Thom

    FOGGY WINDOWS

YMMV : ) Greetings, In my wife's and my build we typically do not see much if any condensation. We attribute this to a few factors (IMO)... 1) Inside walls have marine grade hull liner (_Example link_ ). The only smooth surfaces are the formica cabinetry. And I've not noticed any morning dew...

    Which van now??

: ) My wife drives our 2010 Chevy AWD converted cargo van as her daily driver. We take it out about once a month from spring thaw to fall freeze. 5 years old last month and 35K miles...looks and runs like new. We were Toyota peeps before that 1st American car purchase. It is a great vehicle...

What kind of auto insurance do you carry?

the Progressive rep stated each state can have variances... Here in Oregon it was a no-go. Though I did get three quotes from S.F. on a T-250, T-350, and T-350 Aerocell. Each was at $50 +/- a couple bucks each month. This was full coverage and commercial insurance with personal use noted. Once...

What kind of auto insurance do you carry?

I'm at a loss as to how the same company (Progressive) would tell me today, flat out, no exceptions, that neither their commercial branch, personal branch, or RV branch have a product that would insure a brand new Ford Transit cargo van as anything other than a commercial policy. AND IF they...

Mr Heater MH9BX 3rd party product to reduce the heat even further down

: ) You can't get away with throwing out a cool verbiage like "2 chamber design" and not expect us to wonder what it's all about! ? ----As others have noted... I too am of the personal-body-comfort over heating up a given bunch of room-air. As I type it is ~1300. 57F/94% humidity outside...
