Is my vehicle smog-free enough for California?

My 2010 Jeep failed the smog test. I repaired it. Broken vapor return fitting on the gas tank. Took it back and it passed fine. Wasn't labeled a gross polluter. Don't have to go to a star station.

What's the cleanest, cheapest, most minimal eating I can do?

Peanut butter is a good and cheap protein source as are squash and beans. Eggs also. Easy to store too. As you add fresh vegetables and salad stuff the cost can go up along with storage issues. If you have refrigeration this isn't all that big an issue. Keep an eye out for farmer's markets...

An actual analysis of the cost difference between heating with Propane vs Diesel fuels

Nope. I don't do the exchange thing unless I have an out of date cyl. I just posted this for comparason. Also beware of places that have a 5 gallon minimum unless I have more than one cylinder to fill.

An actual analysis of the cost difference between heating with Propane vs Diesel fuels

Right now I'm paying $4.69/gal for Diesel. The local cyl exchange rate for propane is roughly $5.71/gal. Although it isn't actually posted as a per gallon price, it works out that way.

Where to go for diesel heater install

Are there diesel heaters that are higher quality? Perhaps not Chinese? Maybe with a quieter fuel pump?

OK I'm a sayin' it HARBOR FREIGHT!

DannyB1954 said: "The best self defense gun is one that you can shoot well. Get one that is too powerful and you will never practice with it, and it will punish you when you do." This should be rule #1 of concealed carry weapons. There's nothing wrong with a .22 if it means you will actually...

How many watts is your Solar setup?

I have 120 watts and it's enough for my very basic needs. 2 6 volt golf cart type batteries. No fridge, but I run a ham radio at times. Also a laptop, but not a lot. I got the panels for free from a friend who was upgrading his setup, which is how I settled on the wattage. -Bill-

    My new (used) fridge!

I don't know what makes me more jealous. Your fridge score, or the fact you are in Abbotsford. Been there, liked it. People were pretty friendly and the area is great. Good stuff Willy. -Bill-

16 year old seeking advice from my elders (lengthy post)

IF you were my son I would tell you this: For now, finish High School and keep it college prep where you can. That way if you decide later to attend college you will spend less time making up for those basic courses. After that, go travel. Take at least a year and go look about. You don't...

Larger tires for better gas mileage?

Larger tires also throw the odometer off. Hard to tell if you're getting better mileage or not. -Bill-

Agressive ORV rear tires or Highway tireS?

With the more aggressive tires you have to pay a lot more attention to inflation pressures and tire rotation. It makes a lot of difference to how many miles you get out of a set of tires. Tire pressure...I carefully measure tread depth across each tire and adjust the pressure until I get wear...

    Good Reads.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned 'Travels with Charley' by John Steinbeck. I've read it more times than I can remember. -Bill-

Tips or gear for when you get stuck?

I have to echo most of what has been suggested so far. Good hyd jack, real shovel, tire chains, and a good way to air up my tires. (I carry a set up that uses a 20 lb co2 bottle) A hi-lift jack is heavy and takes up a lot of room but is very good if you have a good bumper to use it under. It can...

    Hello! I'm new here

HI Melissa! You are smart to gather as much information as you can before you take the plunge into full timing. You will find a lot of good information here. Another place I can suggest is the Escapees group. It is a club forum but they are very friendly and welcome non-members on their...

2 way refrigerator suddenly quit working. Help!

It appears that the Norcold DE line of fridges are indeed compressor type units. They are aimed at the marine and trucking industries. They are touted as being useable up to 30 degrees off level.
<a rel="nofollow"...

any know-how on macerator pump use

The macerator has no problem with the toilet paper most RVer's use. I have one and use it on occasion. As James suggested you should buy or make your holding tank with the standard RV valve and fitting so you can go either way (3" rv hose or pump) as you please. THe pump is easily purchased with...

    Game spy camera

I have one of these and frequently put it out when boondocking just to see what is wandering through camp while I am asleep. Coyotes, racoons and the rare bear have been around. Mine is made by Bushnell, but I can't recommend it over any other because it is the only one I have used.
I...
