We had Visible but we're not high tech & they won't talk to you so we wen't with Consumer Cellular which has the best customer service I've seen in years. 2 phones with unlimited everything $55 per month + tax.

I've had Consumer Cellular for several years and have been 90% very happy with them. (Some frustrating customer service recently, which is unusual for them, but then we are in a labor shortage.) I'd definitely recommend.

I don't know & the $55 2 line deal you have to be an AARP member which is $12 per year.

I forgot to add Consumers uses both Verizon & AT&T towers whichever is stronger.

Which network is this? EDIT: Answered my own question, it's ATT... which is good for a nomad in the west... at least for me. They seem to have the best coverage in remote areas.

And do you know what the speed drops to after you hit your 50GB cap on the "unlimited" plan? Often that is 128kbps, so really damn slow! Also, does that include hotspot?

They previously used ATT and TMobile, but starting this year it's ATT only. Verizon and ATT would be a nice match though, as I've found that while ATT is usually best, when it's lacking Verizon usually fills that hole a bit while TMobile does not.

Looks like a good plan. I can use my current S8+ which is nice... I couldn't with Visible. I'm curious what happens when you get to 50GB for the month as that is pretty easy to hit if all your internet use is going through it.

I’ve been getting the Affordable Connectivity Benefit which appears to be ending in April. I switched from Verizon to ATT at the start of that program because of Verizon’s pricing game. Basically to get an eligible plan you had to give them the entire $30 benefit. I’ll see what ATT offers, but most likely I’ll be going to Visible/Verizon.

I’m keeping my eye on Starlink, it’s tempting but even more so with a lower cost. I’d get a cheap no data phone for voice.

It's $120 or $150/mo for mobile, and $599... and uses a good amount of power. Far from cheap, and I wouldn't expect that to drop.

I hate Verizon. Once you're in their clutches it's hard to get out.

^^^Agree but it works most of the time and just like Star Link is expensive.

Regarding star link, they have an updated dish they are pushing. I've seen some used base stations for sale on Facebook, Craigslist, offer up, etc.

So you might not have to pay the full $599 for the equipment if you buy used. Just a thought.

Anyone use Tracfone? I just need a small amount of data per month and hotspot for my desk top when travelling . I just cancelled my verizon hotspot which was my only internet for home and travel because i got fiber to house. Will be going to a smart phone rather than flip phone.

If Verizon worked for you in the areas you'll need Internet, I would strongly suggest Visible. $25 a month. And while it's unlimited, it's cheap.

I don't think I would ever recommend tracphone to anyone. In my experience, they haven't been the best company to work with over the years.

If you're looking for very limited and dirt cheap, definitely check your actual usage. Then you can find a cheap mvno to use for that exact amount of data while possible saving a few $$.

Mint comes to mind for their 3 month plan for $15/mo with unlimited on T-Mobile Network. But after that it goes up.

I am using straight talk and it, like TracFone, is owned by Verizon now. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

It's my understanding that Verizon doesn't have great coverage in the boonies. Other than that, it seems fine. I'm on the $45 a month plan which offers more than you would need.
