    Window coverings dilemma

Have you had issues with the adhesive failing in excessive heat? I live in the East Coast and haven’t found a glue that’ll hold up to heat. Of course, it’s 19 degrees here now so I can report that E6000 holds up in the cold!

    Temperature differential in the winter

No separate heater? That’s very cozy. Well done. I don’t think we can have too much insulation, eh?

    Temperature differential in the winter

Thank you CosmickGold! What a beauty your van is! Mine doesn't have steel bars in the dinghy, but there are wood "ribs" every couple of feet, so it's very sturdy and made attaching ceiling and wall planking very easy. I agree with you about the dark tinted windows. I love how they help keep...

    Temperature differential in the winter

I'm wondering what kinds of temp differential you all get between inside and outside if you DON'T have a heater of any kind. Bonus points if you have a former passenger van (i.e. windows until Sunday). I'll start - Chevy Express 15 seater passenger van w/ fiberglass 'dinghy' on top...

    Passenger van

I wouldn’t have bought a former passenger van if I’d had my druthers, but beggars can’t be choosers in this market if you don’t have tens of thousands of dollars. My van had the “dinghy” installed on top too. Everything everyone says about the heat and cold issues is true. But if you know...

    Gidday!

Hi y'all. 2021 was a big year for me. After a few weeks of searching and test-driving vans, I scored a sweet deal on a 2006 Chevy Express 3500, an extended former 15 seater passenger van with a 'dinghy' installed by the previous owner on top. She was owned by the private owner for almost all...

Calling all nomads in the East

Hi all! One benefit of the new platform is that I've been getting digests in my inbox! Which reminded me of this forum. It's been an utter whirlwind since I first joined - got the van, built it out in two months, took off to meet my partner half way across the country as he cycled across the...

    Rear door surround finish ideas?

Once I figure how to route all the wiring back inside the surround, I’m planning on spray glue mounting marine vinyl to the exposed metal parts. I found a couple of absolutely gorgeous ones (“carbon”) at marinefabricvinyl.com (I think that’s its addy.)

    Connecting AGM battery(/ies) to engine

Hi all - I'm getting there on my 2006 Chevy Express 3500 passenger van conversion.  It came with a single separate Group 31 AGM battery which powered a fan, some lights and an outlet.  I'm installing a fridge and need the usual outlets and usb connectors to be able to work on my laptop on the...

    Your Opinion on Roadtreks?

Excellent advice, thanks.  It's a little better than that - it'll be a day to go up AND back.  But I'd like  mechanic to check on it, so I might have to do AirBnB overnight.   Off to the dearly departed Click 'n Clack to find a mechanic ...

    Your Opinion on Roadtreks?

Hi all - I've read through this thread with interest.   I've sourced a 1992 Roadtrek 190 Versatile (Dodge base), 74K miles, $14K, one owner before the dealership, new tires and a few other odds and ends.  Looks in really nice condition, with some paint touchups, and there's a video...

I'm 5'4": what older model van could I stand up in?

Thank you!  So ... "TV" top means the ones I see that have a TV embedded in the front?  Or is this a manufacturer? I think I'll be similar to you - living mostly outside, but I do want to be able to work inside, and do envision some bad weather where Ill be trapped inside.   I used to do some...

    Gidday!

If you've seen my first post, you know that I'm 5'4" tall :) But there's SO much more to me.  I've been hankering after van life for a couple of years now.  I found after I moved down into our newly built 340 sqft basement apartment for six weeks, that the itch went away for a while.  I LOVED...

I'm 5'4": what older model van could I stand up in?

My lord there are a lot of Fords, Dodges, Chevys and GMC high tops!!!  I'm overwhelmed by them all.  I'm on the hunt for an older model (80s/90s/2000s) that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.  Any advice on which I should look at if I want to be able to stand up at least in the tallest part of it...
