When you go to make a call it prompts you asking if you want to use your cell phone number of Google Voice number. So you can pick.

Hi Vagari,

That Groove IP app looks cool! Can you make international calls with it say to Asia or Europe? I believe you must use Groove IP along with Google Voice, so does that mean the person you call only sees your Google Voice phone number, instead of your "real" cellular phone number?

As for text messages, do you need to create a new user name for that, how does that work?

Thanks,
Casey

Hi, my name is Nancy, and I'm a smartphone junky.
There, I admitted it, now it's out in the open and I don't have to hide in shame any further! Lol

Seriously love my iPhone5...and all my previous ones...and yes I was one of the idiots that bought the original back in 2007(?) and paid $600 for it...however, in my defense I didn't camp out in line for a week at the Apple store waiting for it, I bought it a couple weeks later when there wasn't a line LOL. I just HAD to have that cool little gadget and I've never looked back. I use it constantly...work, school, play... Heck I'm using it now to dictate this post (gotta love speak-to-text!). It's well worth the money I pay every 2 yrs to get a new one.

I love you, wonderful smartphone!!

Let me add that since I've had this ATT acct for years, I'm grandfathered in to continue getting unlimited data...if that should ever change (god forbid!!!) then I'll probly go with another provider. I use a lot of data!

iPhone5 is my hobby. Phone is jail broken and modified. Would suggest getting some offline mapping app. Also WAZE as that gets you reports of police and traffic.

Get DARK SKY. It's great for rain storm forecast minute to minute.

Get WIFI FINDER paid version. Download offline list. And get the STARBUCKS app both to find free fast as hell wifi.

COVERAGE? Gets you a map of all the cellphone coverage areas.

Make sure you review the support comments. Many apps are created one time, and never updated. The HAVE2P app is an example of that as it was never updated, thus is useless for many IPHONE users.

I can highly recommend the app WAZE for real time traffic , speed trap, navigation alerts. Also recommend FRING for telephone calls over WIFI. And last of my three recommendations is RADIO PARADISE which is 3G or Wifi music radio that has the lowest bandwidth. Thus you can listen a long time without eating up you data minutes.

I just tried the Radio Paradise app on my iPad. Seems to be broken, no way to select stations. There is also no menu to change any of the settings.

MyDAT Trucker, Sanidumps Lite. And, because I hike alone with my dog, have absolutely no sense of direction and can get lost as soon as I leave my site, My Tracks.

Heh...at first I thought Cyndi was not only behind the times, but bought a really outdated phone. Then I saw the date...turns out she got a smartphone before I did... ;)

Has anyone found an app which displays the speed limit you are currently in?

Lots will show you YOUR current speed but that is not what I need.

Trapster used to do this but no more.

Ideas?

If you don't mind, what GPS are you using?

John

Rand McNally. Sorry about the delay. Mr Organization reorganized it into the new dashboard in the space where an area to store keys, wallets, etc was supposed to go without telling me. Yeah, I could have seen it. It must have been there for several days. But I am not the observant type, I guess. Again, click on it to make it rightsideup.

Yes. Verizon's "VZNavigator" shows the speed limit. I use this now instead of dedicated GPS. It has proven more accurate and reliable. I have a dash mount for my cell phone.

The HERE app shows speed limit but it is not 100% accurate as you can imagine in construction zones and recently changed posted speed limits.

GasBuddy - Find the cheapest gas near you.
WorkHardAnywhere (WHA) - Find WiFi speeds at establishments near you.
Hangouts - Works with Google Voice to make calls over data. (WiFi/4G).
Deliveries - Tracking number = Real time delivery notifications every time a package is delivered or moves facilities.
Dual Radar - Weather.
Open Signal - Cellular coverage map.
HERE Maps - GPS/Offline mapping capable, by state, country or continent.
AllStays Camp & RV - Too much to list so I'll just link the site here.

ok I have seen gas buddy mentioned a few times. gas buddy is very poor in rural locations at least out west. highdesertranger

I have noticed this too. I think it is because the stations are far apart and no one updates the prices. If you need fuel, you need fuel.....

Waze - great for traffic
GasBuddy - for the best gas prices
Spyglass - for navigation
Camp & RV
Just need to mention that I'm an iphone user

Garmin GPS have speed limits updated and built in. You need to get the GPS version with unlimited Maps and update it once a year. If you want something as alternate to using your cellphone. Am finding that I task the cellphone with too many needs. So am trying to push off activity to other devices. Eventually phones and gps and laptops fail. It's good to have a backup.
