For those of you that stealth in a neighborhood, check your wifi and see if you don't see xfinitywifi as a option. You can get two one hour sessions a month for free. They also have paid plans from a few bucks for a hour to twenty for a week. I'm not sure what is required but here is their page on it.

xfinitywifi

I know this because last year my year old, high dollar cable modem stopped working, they simply stopped supporting it and forced me to get their new modem. Only it they said could support the highest speeds and wifi. They even boosted me up to the highest speed for nothing to get me to say yes.

What they didn't mention was that it has a second modem and wifi for the hotspot until they released xfinitywifi last year. In the beginning it did have an affect on my wifi.

As a customer I can sign in any time even if I look like my sister when doing so. ;) Her usage would still come out of my monthly data limit. I would think that the hotspot side runs at a certain speed no matter what the plan being used so you may get better speeds than they are inside.

I know when I tried to turn it off on ours they said we could but I have never figured it out besides getting a run around.
