Bob, do these slip over the door to stay on or totally on the outside by magnets? If over the door ever have any water get in during rain storms?

They do both. It has a pocket on the top of the door to slip over and sewn in magnet at the bottom.  I've never had leaks or wearing of the vinyl and it has been out in a fair amount of rain.

If the wind is bad I add extra magnets all around and they can handle a lot of wind!

At this point, there are zero negatives about it except the amount of room they take up, but even that isn't bad.

Thanks, Almost There! Would not have thought of making my own. Have a sewing machine. Would have to ask shop where I bought it for right kind of needle, and if the experts there feel my model would sew through the vinyl.

It's on my to-do van list, which gets longer by the day :s

If you get good at it, it could be a source of income for you!! I bet there are people who would be willing to pay for them!

Good idea, Bob. Gas and fun money to get me down the road. Would help others too.

My cover will be here tomorrow! Woot!

But otherwise, I would have been your first consumer, Kathleen!

U guz roc!!!

Such Fun!!!

Mine arrived late yesterday.
It as cold and very windy, but I went ahead and put it on anyway.
Initial impression is that it fit, but I thought it would be a better fit.
So, today after the sun had warmed it up quite a bit, it fits way better.
The cold made it really stiff, and the wind has been just awful since...

It blocks the heat and sun well, giving a nice muted kinda glow up there.

There was one light leak, but a quick adjustment fixed that...

Overal, I'm thinking I'm gonna like it!
Like Bob says, I may not want to be without one!

what about sand and dust getting under them in a windstorm. wouldn't that act like sand paper on your paint and glass? I know off roaders thought bras were great when they first came out thinking they would help with rock chips. that was until they took the bra off and found their paint worn off. highdesertranger

Mine arrived this afternoon, had it shipped to a friend's house. Will pick it up tomorrow.

I don't spend much time in the desert and if I do, it would be in the winter and probably wouldn't use it anyway. Let the sun shine in for heat. But that's a good thought HDR. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks!

HDR, I thought about that for a couple a seconds, and then... Ok whatever...
My particular van's external patina will not be harmed. In fact, just the reverse
As any further patina enhancements will only add to the "Stealth" illusion...

Such Fun! Right?

Received mine and am ok with it. The cutouts for the side mirrors aren't long enough (My van has the double armed large towing mirrors) but the long Velcro strip holds it on. 30 mins on my sewing machine will fix that.

I haven't been able to find a wrap around windshield cover for a pickup.  Anyone know of a source?

Alternately, what material would you use to make one?

Marine grade vinyl will work well.

You'll need a sewing machine that is heavy enough to handle up to 4 layers of the material or 2 layers if you do some fancy cutting at the corners!
