I had to break out my jug of washer fluid and my trusty squeegee to clean my windshield (wiper nozzles don't seem to be working), and now I'm wondering what to do with the squeegee before stuffing it back into my hot "mobile motel room." Will a thorough rinsing with water be adequate, or this stuff more volatile than that?

I also seem to have a bucket full of used washer fluid as well. Do I need to dump the stuff at the nearest gas station (in the same bucket they always provide for it), or can it be gotten rid of via more convenient means? I'm worried about poisoning someone/something....

In the hotel closet are hangers with clips. Clip the squeegee to one of these. If the hanger has a hook, hang it over the shower. If no hook, put a hotel towel on the closet floor--it will dry out or you can rise it out.

jonney. this is a van dwelling forum. There are no hotel closet hangers unless we bring our own.

ganchan. Most of those window cleaners are some type of alcohol. Rinse if you need, but I use a plastic baggy too keep the wet away. You could make up a spray bottle of your own window cleaner solution. Then you know what the poison. Spend some time and fix the nozzles.

Discovered that the problem isn't the nozzles but a leaky washer fluid container. Should be an easy fix....

Ganchan: Automotive washer fluid is non toxic, when it gets sprayed on the windshield it also falls on the ground or splashes on the folks following you with their windows open and the stuff would be killing us all as we drive down the road. Don't worry about it too much. Also use a sewing or safety pin to poke the holes in the nozzle to help free anything blocking them.

land pilot, I believe some of it is toxic. In California you can't buy the winterized stuff. so there must be something in it. highdesertranger

Various alcohols. The one's that are any good are slightly toxic in the washer fluid form. The new bottle before it is filled is known to cause cancer in California.

True there is methanol in it but you'll have to drink the stuff directly to be affected, when it falls on the ground or splashes of the window into the breeze that ingredient with evaporate quite quickly thereby not being a severe health hazard. You mean California has a winter, they are so paranoid. I would recommend taking any you don't need to a local garage for disposal and not dumping it down the drain.
