Hello all
Im in quartzsite and tonight I might want to turn my wave 3 on and open my maxx fan. Are these fans built to withstand this kind of wind? I wouldn't be good to have it ripped of leaving a wide open hole.
I've already had my hood blow up towards the windshield.
I thought maybe I could just crack the fan a bit or my front windows are also opened about an inch. Would just the front windows open be enough?

If both front windows are down an inch or a 1/2 inch and it is windy outside there should be plenty of oxygen inside with the propane heater going.  The inside of your windshield would fog up anyway just from exhaling moisture.  I don't sleep with propane heat on with the MaxxFan open or not.

Didn't your instruction manual tell you how many square inches of ventilation you need for safe operation of the unit?

People forget that they already have such information provided to them by the maker of the product.

I've slept with the Wave3 on all night long with just the front windows down 1/2 inch in my Dodge high top van for years.  I've also forgot and slept with all windows up and MaxxAire closed...  not advised that way but I survived.

I'd say 1/2 inch down both windows is safe based on my personal experience

BTW, I now run only a vented propane furnace with a thermostat.

Orient your vehicle pointing into the wind. That way the wind will push down on the sloped side of the vent instead of upward on the open side.

Remember that vents are subjected to the wind of your driving speeds. If it doesn't blow off at 70 MPH it's fine with whatever Mother Nature is blowing through the desert.

Also, when you're pointed into the wind, and you have a dashboard vent open, you probably wouldn't need the roof vent open.

Winds can shift up to 180 degrees, as they did in the recent high winds.
The winds started blowing Death Valley dust our way, then shifted to blowing Nevada Test Site dust (mixed with the Death Valley dust going back) our way.

Nah...I think it is a photo of my hair before I brushed it.
