I've been tethering my laptop to my phone(3g) and it works fine for what I need. Today I was reading through some paperwork from StraightTalk and noticed an asterik next to unlimited mobile web access. Sure enough at the bottom of the page it says "Tethering or using phone as a hotspot is strictly prohibited". Anyone ever have any trouble with this or know of a carrier that allows tethering with unlimited access? It's a prepaid phone so I can easily switch.

If you are able to do it, then do it. The most they can do is shut you down and its a prepaid phone so who cares :D Im surprised you are able to tether it tho...i have a net10 phone and i couldn't figure out how to do it.

I use PdaNet+FoxFi to tether. Some people say they got the boot from straighttalk for going over 2g per month, others say they go over 2g every month with no problems. I'll just keep using it and see what happens. Not sure if it will work with Net10.

ALL cellphone companies will give you that same warning. It's up to you whether to take a chance or not. Personally, I've been using PdaNet and FoxFi for many months now, and works just fine for fast 4G LTE wireless tethering to my various laptops and tablets. I don't rely on free wifi signals, because it's just too unreliable and not secured. However, I realize that for some people in remote areas, there are few choices if any.

Dazar, I have a net10 phone too. I don't use it to connect. What I did and it is much cheaper, was got a Virgin mobile OverdrivePro mifi. It cost $55 for 5GB on the 3g network and unlimited on the 4g. This is not a monthly plan either. I don't have to re up until the 5GB of 3g is used. In the last 6 weeks, I have used 14GB of 4g and less than 1GB of 3g. Lots of g's. lol

Where there is 4g service connections and data are free. If I stayed right here, it would take 6 months to use up the $55 worth of data. I have $100 a month in the budget for my communications. I get the 750 minutes from net10 for the android for $25 and I figured another $55 for the mifi. So far so good on keeping in way under budget.

Years ago, I had a Sprint aircard and it was ok, this OverdrivePro is pretty fast when connect to 4g. Faster than when I had vios connected in the house.

did not know virgin mobile had any 4G at all.

They use Sprints. Here on the east coast 4g is quite available.
