Why you would not attend an RTR

It depends how sick I am. Drove from the Mt Rainier area and could not risk the Siskyous. Currently at a motel in Ashland debating whether to go to the local hospital for a check for flu. Dang, I rarely get sick but being almost 63 years old is something I am just getting used to. ? I am feverish and when I left my home yesterday my son was just starting to become mobile after he picked something up in Canada the week before.
The pass report for Sunday does not look much better but at least the winds have died down. In any case I doubt I will make Quartzite on the 8th. just not feeling it (putting chains on my car)!  I would stay away from people until not contagious ?

with all this predetermined negativity I would stay away too.  what's is it called when people are afraid of trying something new or out of their comfort zone.

Or, one knows what one can handle, and environments they can do well in, and what one cannot, and chooses accordingly.

I like driving around thru rtr and seeing all the different rigs. I spent a couple of days ago doing it at wrtr.

I can’t understand why anyone would have a problem with it.

It’s easy peasy to camp within the group or as far out as you feel comfortable. Holy moley you can easily find space where you won’t see another camper if that’s your thing.

Don’t want to go? Just don’t no need to bitch about it. Lots of people will be having a great time without you.

HDR are u out there yet?

Regarding negativity, I suppose you can include my post.

But here's the deal.  The question was asked , and I answered.  I'm not afraid to go, I don't WANT to go.  So happy for those who do want to go and are going to get to.  Hopefully, it will be one of the best experiences of your life.  My first time was.  And still is.

I hope that clears it up.

WP

There are plenty of threads on here that talk about the lengths and expense people are going through to get there. I think it would be in bad taste for someone to go over there and rain on their parade.
If people choose not to go for whatever reason that is their decision/opinion not a reflection on those that do go. This thread is to support all those that are not going and interested in the reasons why they are not going. Carry on.

It is very considerate not to show up if it is something you could spread to others.  With some medical plans they do have a no extra cost phone consult with a nurse or other type of qualified practitioner that will let you know if you really do need to see the doctor. Ashland is large enough to have one of the walk-in, no appointment clinics. Those are often less expensive than an emergency room visit.  If you do feel well enough to go to the RTR and the consult says you are very low risk for contagion go and have fun. Just in case you could use a paper mask at events and use hand sanitizer too.

Kurbmaster you're going to miss the gathering of vans like yours. I'm going to run over there and check them out!

Cammalu I'm here! Gotta work for it though.

Yes I know that would be the main reason i would like to go, to see all the different quirky rigs and talk to the quirky people that own them. Maybe one day i will be in the area at the right time of year, I have friends in Yuma that keep inviting me to come hang with them. Enjoy.

We will go once. Probably not more. It is something I want to see definitely but we are different travelers. We do want water water and more water. But the desert will call but I think the type we are, the desert won't hold us long. But we sure want to experience it one time. So check it out in the years to come when we can get out there, yup, on our list. Continue to attend thru the extra years, probably not. One thing we love is to move. But we never know, it could be a fixed draw for us. So we never say never, ya just never do know what you will love or dislike in our travels.

Like many others, far too many people for my liking. I'm an introvert so that equals stress for me. Based on the videos I've seen of it and Bob talking about the numbers, I think its probably only a few short years before it is far too big for him or anyone else to control. Like most things that get bigger and involve large numbers of people problems occur and regulations are created to try and control it.

my suggestion is to hold that thought.  It has worked it's magic on me, and I miss it when I'm not in it.
I do appreciate a change to the mountains of CO during the summer, but I miss the desert when I'm there!  Amazing!

yea pat we are wondering about it. We are east coast people and we have been out west but not for long term like we plan on doing. I can't wait to explore the desert, but to hold us there, hmmm, I sure can't say it won't have some magic on us also LOL That is why I like to leave my options open. I mean people who have been have real opinions on it, we aren't there yet on a definite opinion of our full time wanderings yet. So many places to go ya know!

You could say "YUK" and run back to humidity!   :D  BTW, I lived for at least 40 years east of the MS river.  20+ years West of the MS river.  Way prefer it here.  The bad news about the mountains.  Summer is Forest Fire season.
So... it's the desert or back East, as far as choices go.

Again, my $0.02

yes those wild fires are scary for sure. I so agree with ya on the humidity LOL but I am one to sit in the water all day long so I never notice it truly. I thrive in very hot weather, now, less humidity is a plus on many days tho!! I so want to experience that dry air they say is wonderful out there. Lovely thing about all this, we have wheels! One thing I want so desperately is to explore and like you say, if YUK, I can fire up the engine and roll those wheels elsewhere!
