Not sure if this is the right place for this thread, communication seemed to fit the question. Just curious as to how many of you have actually met other forum members. When and where would be interesting too.

We've met quite a few people, some at the RTR of 2013 and some from meetups when we found that we were in the same area as another member. Some meetings were initiated by us, some by the other member.

Bindi&us when we were in Vegas at the same time spring 2013.

Van-Tramp in Colorado at the Moose Lodge - summer 2013

Nelda - invitation to park on street when we passed through town - fall 2012

Frickenducky - shared a boondocking spot in Colorado summer 2013

All of these meeting were great. It's nice to find out that the members are just as wonderful in person as they are on the forums!

I've only met Joni, tho I don't think she's on the forum any more. hope to meet more, but I'm way up here in BC, Canada. ..Willy.

I 'almost' met Bindi&us, last summer.
...as they were camped at our local casino for over a week, right up front by the highway in the free area.
I drove by them several times a day in my dumptruck, and by the time I finally went to go introduce myself, (I didn't know this was them at the time)...they were gone!!! :(

so close, and yet so far!!

We had a wonderful time with Tony & Karen in Vegas. Super folks, and their RV is so cool, boondocker's delight.
Karen drew this for us....

At Quartzsite RTR we spent the day visiting, as we were camp hosting at the time. Met a bunch of the gang from here and very much enjoyed sharing conversation with several about their rigs and adventures. Really neat when you can put a person with the name. A few from camp came by to visit us and bring reports about seminars, potlucks, and other "community events" at RTR, including a haircut day.
We'll be at RTR next winter, with plans to stay the whole time.
There's plenty of open space out there, so come on out if you can possibly make it. I dare say, its about the best thing a new vandweller can do....Info by the bucketful, hands-on education, tips and tricks.

I'll be the one with colorful streamers on a pole, and flying a kite (trying not to dive into scrub bushes we call "trees").

When exactly is RTR? My plan is to head there from Florida in mid to late January. I would love to be able to put a face with the name.

The RTR is in January but never at the exact same time or place. Here's the info from this year - http://www.cheaprvliving.com/gatherings/

Bob announces when and where it will be whenever he gets it all set. People are always there early and late so even if you miss the actual RTR there's still a chance to meet and hang out.

We were planning on attending this year but never made it west. Next year for sure! Looking forward to meeting you and all of the old and new members there!

Patrick....I don't think we were staying current on here while in Coos Bay, unfortunately. I'm sure the chances of meeting would have been better if we had been paying attention.
Maybe next year we'll be back up that way.

I met Van trekker a couple of years ago while working in Iowa.

I've been to 4 of the January RTRs, so I'm sure there are more. But these are the names the comes to mind when combined with the forum

I'm also going to move this thread. Communications, with regard to this forum, refers to digital and electronics.

Last evening we met with a new member, Lugh The Bard, at our favorite spot, Boondocks Lounge here in Tucson.

Lugh and I used to live down at Bisbee, Az during the same period, but weren't acquainted then, eventho we were sorta neighbors outside of town.
Lugh ran a business in Bisbee, and an active repertory theater player.
He also an SCA Medieval Re-enactor currently applying his skills thru Tuson's Ampfi Schools system teaching children ancient ways of chivalry, song, dance, and story telling in a part time program. One of his projects with the kids was providing materials and instruction so each could build a stringed harp. It was such a hugely successful program that he was asked to return this year and will also be involved in the school's summer camp program.
Lugh also works a regular part time job and is on track to purchase his "new" mobile living quarters next month. Being well over 6' tall, his preference is a stepvan or a tall top maxi.

I know when you have the opportunity to meet Lugh you're going to be enthralled with this kind, "gentle giant" bard and welcome him into your heart.

Please, welcome Bard Lugh to the tribe.

Thanks Jay! You and Margie are pretty amazing yourself! Wow! I didn't realize I had been so 'enthralling". I guess that happens when I get all excited and get to talk about stuff I love. Wait 'til you get me started on "green" building techniques! :) I'll probably post more later about how things develop for this year's summer program at the Waldorf School. I might get a little bit "anchored" here if some of the things that I think might happen do. I still plan on the van, but, I might have to put off some of the travel. But I think it will be worth it! With any luck, 'll get some time off for RTR.

We met WanderWoman (Kathleen) a few days ago. She's a delightful gal who lives in Flagstaff. Kathleen likes to get away to go tent camping when she can. I know y'all would enjoy meeting her as much as we did.

Yesterday we met Jeanontheroad, her hubby, Wolfgang, and Wizzer, their furbuddy.
We had a wonderful visit and cookout at their camp site along with WanderWoman.
Jean and Wolf are a really nice couple that are very much enjoying traveling, now that they're retired and unencumbered.
They will be headed north from here to see the grandkids, so keep an eye out for them and be sure to meet this cool couple if they are in your area.

Other than those we met while at RTR, we have met several on the road.
A little over a year ago we met Darren and Randee (can't remember their user name) in NM. Again, this last summer we saw Tony&Karen in Washington.
Now, on our West Coast tour we hooked up with Wagoneer and CaseyC in San Francisco...thanks guys, it was loads of fun :)
We're on our way down to San Diego where we are looking forward to meeting up with SternWake also.

Gosh, I love traveling and meeting forum members along the way makes it so much nicer :)

How could I have forgotten to mention the great time we had in Coos Bay with Patrick.
Long drive down hiway 1 today and a mushy brain by the time we found a place to land.

Patrick was a wonderful host and very helpful in many ways. We'll never forget you my friend.

I also forgot to include Towhee. She drove down to Coos Bay and camped with us at Bastendorf Beach and toured Cape Arago.

Geeze, hope I haven't left out anyone. Its been a long day.

I very much enjoyed meeting and camping with you all just north of Cape Arago on the Oregon coast. It\ said:

We shared a space at the Carlsbad State Beach park with SternWake. Had a great site overlooking the ocean...primo place for a visit and he even got in a bit of surfing while I shot some pics and video from up on the cliff.

We hope he will make it to RTR this season, as I know y'all will enjoy meeting him as much as we did.

It was great meeting you guys too. Camping overlooking the ocean is always a treat for me. Nothing like peeling back a curtain to check the surf from bed in the morning.

Please preface that video to viewers that I had 6 beers in me when i paddled out. Yes, I will blame that for my low success rate, and the minor wounds I received from my board :)

I applied some epoxy and fiberglass onto the interior panels of the hull of the Next Cedar surfboard I am making. The beauty of the wood is impressive, going from a light blond through a light pink to a dark brown. Only about 200 more separate steps to go through before it is surfable.

Not sure about my attendance at the RTR, I have difficulty prying myself from the ocean, and this winter should have some spectacular swells from El Nino.

I met the very nice Bob Dickerson and his wife at the beet harvest. I have also met several people who use the forum but are not active participants, instead chose to lurk, so they shall remain nameless!
