I want a big van, but I also want 25mpgs...

I know it's probably doesn't exist...

It doesnt exist. The Honda Odyssey gets 24 in the city... but not alot of space.

Your standard cargo van will get about 13 - 15 mpg. My plan is to have a gas budget of $50 for my 1999 E150 and once that is spent I will only stick to essential driving. I'll be 100% urban so YMMV.

Thanks guys, good input/suggestions...

The nv200 is another contender in that department, but after being high on them, my enthusiasm has waned big-time....

Here's a top 10 van link by MPG: http://www.autobytel.com/top-10-cars/best-gas-mileage-cars/minivans/
It looks like the Ram Promaster City offers the best MPG at 21 city/29 hwy) - however it only has 132 CF of cargo capacity.
For comparison the standard RAM Promaster cargo van with a 213" (medium length) has 483CF of interior space (over 3 1/2 times as much). Your best bet would be to get either this model or a Mercedes Sprinter (if you have a fat wallet) high top, long WB with a diesel for the best MPG/SQ FT of interior space. Both should give you about 550 CF of interior space and low to mid twenties for MPG.

Cool...

Yeah the sprinter is definitely in consideration, but when I do the math on mpgs at current prices (2.30 for gas and 3.00 for dies.) the savings isn't much, if at all. But I do like them, especially the space... i mean with i high roof, forget about it, total luxury... :)

The pro master cargo get horrible mpg. the caravan tradesman/cargo thing is interesting but way low headroom and only 18 city...

I only know one guy with a Promaster and he says he gets 20-22 easily and better on the freeway. You can see in this picture the headroom is NOT low, he's about 5'9". Are we talking about the same thing? Bob

"25MPG average in an affordable full size Van with a gas engine?

Yeah, yeah, we got those right on the Lot in between the unobtanium and the Dried Unicorn Tears.

Please fill out this credit application and dont forget you include your SSI and mother's maiden name before we show you the Van."

I used to drive high-top, V6 diesel Sprinters for work, and the best they got was 17mpg.

Today while kayaking at the beach, I ran into a surfer with one of the Pro Master cargo vans. It looked pretty nice and definitely roomy, but at 14mpg and a $30K price tag........................................... :/

Not sure where you're going to find a full-sized van that gets 25mpg. My Transit Connect gets 26.6mpg on the highway, but it's anything but full-sized.

2011 chevy express 6 speed 2500 4.8 eng with  20 in high I can get 21.5 highway 17 to 19 city.

Forget the gas mileage. Go big and comfortable.

If you're taking the time to enjoy your travels you're really not spending that much per month on gas. Still only a fraction of what you'd be spending on rent.

I do a LOT of driving, but it is very rare for me to spend over $500 in a month for gas.

I just drove from Quartzite to Seattle for $220.00 That's for 3 weeks including local driving.

Talk about cheap rent! I never worry about gas mileage.

If you want to worry about something, worry about reliability. That's why I prefer older vans.

When you find that van let me know, in the back with be an insanely hot woman who is both logical and has an IQ over 120, she also insists on sharing me with her twin sister and wants me to never work again because she loves supporting my current passions and interests. I digress, point is she's my wife and I would like her safe return.

That's very encouraging. The reports I have heard have been much lower. Like the quote below... 14 mpg is closer to what my research has found. But since that guy you referenced actually owns one, yeah that is encouraging. (Since it's a commercial vehicle, they don't have to list mpg numbers for them).

I was just thinking about a chevy express with 6 cylinder engine. Do you mean 6 cyl. and not 6 speed? Anyway whenever I see a chevy express it's always a v8...

Cool, yeah I hear you. But I want to drive from the NE to the SW in the winter and that is 3,000+ miles just going directly. Also, I want something reliable as I don't want my transmission to give out as I'm driving through texas...

The 4.8 is a V8. The 6 speed gives it a extremely high range of gears. (Motor goes slower, body goes faster.)

I managed 17 mpg at one point with my Dodge 318. It would fail smog in 1/2 the states...

Oh, and I'm assuming he has the gasoline engine and not diesel?

The gas Provan uses the engine and trans from the Caravan. So you could get real world MPG from those, and the Provan is lots bigger.

And they will know how to rebuild the 62 TE trans in Texas. They have some issues... But these have been addressed in the Provan. "Trust us".

Also just saw your question regarding "Are we talking about the same thing?" No, I was referring to the 'city' version which is the small cargo...

But thanks for this because the more I am looking it these pics the more I am liking this one.
