Which would be the best brand van to buy? Especially for safety and reliability?

Ford E-Series (and with what engine(s))?

Chevrolet Express (and with what engine(s))?

Dodge Ram van (and with what engine(s))?

The one that starts, gets you to where you want to be, and starts when you wanna go somewhere else... No one can answer your question or can only give an opinion... They are all good vans in there own way and give credit to the maintenance given or not...

Well, for example:

'97 to '03 Ford E Series vans with Triton 4.6 and 5.4L engines (which are probably most of them) are known to have blown spark plug problems, which can cost thousands of dollars to fix (it won't happen to everyone, but many have complained about this problem.)

According to MSN Autos:

- 2003 Chevrolet Express vans are known to have a problem with catalytic converters failing ($650 fix, happens with 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L ones) and Ignition Lock Cylinder Housing failing ($300 fix)
- 2006 Chevrolet Express vans are known to occasionally have a problem with fuel injectors failing ($930 to fix)
- 2007 Chevrolet Express vans are known to have a problem with the automatic transmission failing ($1800 to fix)

These are not maintenance issues, but issues on the part of the manufacturer.

my vote is ford e-series cargo ....

i believe that around 80% of fleet work vans are ford ....

the spark plug situation is the factory two piece spark plug;
changed mine at 100,000 miles to single piece, ford dealer's needs to do this ....

blkjak ....

the 4.6 and 5.4 liter gas engines are good; diesel i would go 7.3 not the 6.0 ....

I've always had the best luck with Chevy/GMC. The last Ford I bought cost me a new rebuilt transmission. Just never had any good luck with a Ford.
Dodge vans are an unknown entity to me. I would be interested if low mileage.
-Bruce
