I'm gonna be rocking a white stealth E150 cargo van. What kind of roof vent makes the most sense ? What are the pros and cons of the different style roof vents ?

currently I'm eyeballing this one pretty hard:

http://www.trucknvans.com/CRL-6-Compact-Dome-Van-Roof-Vent-p/cb354.htm

but if it makes sense to have a "pop open hatch" style roof vent for some reason I'd love to hear why.

I have no way of knowing how loud the fan is on any of these vents. Money is no object for this because I want the best system possible. I'd love to hear any opinions

omg! that's off the chain and around the yard! Now you've inspired me to review my current plans to see if I can't get more creative. I'm imagining a license plate area that slides away to reveal a fan. I'll repot back in after I've decided what to do

I have one of those 6" dia fan/vents on Lurch, ($20.- ebay) .
Had not thought it was that obvious until I pulled into a campground in N.Carolina and the owner inquired as to who I was conducting an investigation on....seems he had experience with an insurance investigator who used a surveillance periscope that resembled those vents....

this is suppose to be the best vent and the most used ...

http://www.fantasticvent.com/

http://www.fantasticvent.com/products/products.html

Couldn't locate a price on those, nor on the dealers websites in my area. Roughly how much are they? Especially for the automatic one?
Thanks

Must have been looking somewhere else. There's only two dealerships that sell them near Calgary, which is where I am. $300 is a lot, going to have to start saving!

$300 is way to much.

Online between 140 and 175.

http://http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS295&q=fantastic+vent&safe=active&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=6305711225766269537#

Units are very nice and quiet.

I found my Fantastic Vent Fan at the local RV dealer for $179. It has the thermostat and is reversible with three speeds as well. I also got the Maxxair II vent cover and it works great for protecting the lid from high winds and keeps the rain out even in downpours.
I suspect that sense is a highly subjective criteria.
Both the current and the last van had/have large square hatches in the roof. They both work(ed) well. The last van was better ventilated because there were louvers in the window openings in the rear door. I haven't gotten around to installing louvers in the newer van.

Hey all,
I was wondering if it is really necessary to have a roof vent? If I should be cooking in the van, won't just cracking open the side door or window suffice? I would further help the venting by having a small fan blowing outwards through the cracked door, so any fumes inside would be directed outside. Any thoughts?

The roof vent is used to help cool the van -- heat rises.
