I know some are on SSI and such, but what do you all do for work in this lifestyle? I will wait awhile before I give me answers.

Hey everybody!!

I am currently still working as a building maintenance tech, taking care of commercial, retail properties. I have been full -timing living in the van now for about 1 month. I stay sometimes at some of the properties I know that I wont run into problems, and then I switch off and park at Wal-mart, and lastly I stay at a outdoor storage fascility that I have a box van that I am building for my "home". I make sure that I leave early and come back late, and they dont monitor their cameras or timestamping. they are pretty laid back owners who run the yard, and allow me to work on,build my box van...pretty cool. This January I am heading out to the RTR and look for a job in campground maintenance/hosting.
                                                                    Randy

Cool job the both of you. My ex used to have her dog groomed for 75 a month. Not a bad gig. A crap zoo. (sp). Cool dog, just not liking the grooming and nail trimmings.

Maintenance work is good work and will always be there. Something along the line of what I do. Bigger money in smaller jobs as a hint.

I wrote a couple books that I self published on Amazon - it turns out that writing can be so much more profitable than I'd ever thought. This pays about 2x my monthly expenses, but of course varies from month to month.

I'm in the process of putting up two little rentals (one down one to go). When they're rented they'll together pay about 2x my monthly expenses.

I'm writing another book.

That's my retirement plan for now.

Very cool on the writing books and also of interest to me. DId the landlord thing with 12, not my cup of tea.

As for the all work and no play but a few days here and there. Been there done that 7/12 for months on end. I need 5-7 hours a day. lol No master degree, but did knock down $90K in my last year of work in 7 months.

Rocket engineer, budget cuts has to hurt there. NASA string pulling and all. Cool thought.

Working 11pm-7am at a small motel. Super easy work but pretty low pay. I do get a 401k with match though. Im looking for a way to pad my savings though.

What kind of books did you write Tara, how did you go about self publishing? Maybe write a book on self publishing a book

(wonder why my smiley codes dont work now..have to use the interface)

Anytime someone will match on the savings that is great and money in the bank. IMO, good hours too, love night shift.

I retired fairly young. I find that saving money is as good as or better than earning it. Keep in mind that the more money you make....the more Uncle Sam takes!

I will pm Tara if I can, a few of us want to know what she does regarding writing books. Sometimes people miss replies and she may not know she has so many nosy inquires.

I did buy a book once that I thought was about self publishing but it was really about the woman who wrote the book about self publishing and was a best seller. Not very useful to me.

edit 1: No emails for Tara, I suppose she has a life outside of crvLiving. Come on Tara, we want to know and I want to see your books.

Yeah, inquiring minds want to know! What is she writing about?

POF!

No, never been there, and don't think I ever will be there. There's Plenty of Fish elsewhere..... that's if I were fishing, and more so, if the fish cared to take the bait.

Ziggy Moon--ROFL!!

Maybe you could hook me up with AARP and I could model ladies undergarments! LOL!

I am a 50% shareholder in a corporation that my business partner and I started in 2005 that operates online entertainment (gaming).

My primary function is server maintenance and scheduling, which forces me to have an Internet connection at all times (or mostly). This keeps me from venturing too far off the asphalt, but it works well with my lifestyle.

I found this pretty cool site on self publishing and writing, they explain in good detail how to do it on amazon.

http://michaelhyatt.com/kindle-publishing-success.html

And a link from there took me to another good resource on creating and publishing your own book

http://goinswriter.com/tips-writing-book/

I think i might try this. I have been kicking a few fantasy fiction stories around in my head for quite a while. I was planning to write for the november writing month challenge but might as well publish and try to make some money :p Tho i think non-fiction is probably more likely to succeed.

Dazer, I don't think this is off thread but maybe we should start one anyway about writing since a few of have an interest. Also, you mentioned non fiction. Brought back memories of one of the Bob Newhart shows where he bought a hotel and he wrote how to books and another of the characters who was down and depressed all the time wrote happy greeting card sayings.

I have sold a lot of my artwork as cards with uplifting sayings. I have never gone as far as maybe I should or could though. I have thought of making some into calenders and journal covers. I tend to be add so it can be hard to finish an idea.

The card is an earlier example of what I have sold. I'm not trying to push beliefs by putting this on.
My cards are a lot better now.

Diane don't ever apologize for your beliefs. If someone has a problem about it, it's their problem, not yours.

God bless you.

PS That's a beautiful card. I'm glad you can make a little money from it.
