I am finding that sleeping cowboy style works best for me. I use two wool blanket's one under and one over. I have a third if I need it. I was using sheets but that was such a pain to make up every day I gave up.

Wondering if a sleeping bag might work better?

I keep a sleeping bag under me, and a blanket on top. When it gets real cold i will reverse the order and stay pretty toasty.

I like sheets. My cold weather blankets emerge from under my elastic cornered bottom sheet, and return there in warmer weather. I actually have a set of sheets with some ridiculously high thread count. So soft.

I have a sleeping bag I use as a comforter. Not sure if the zipper still works.

I remember the good old tent camping days with a first generation therma-rest. If that thing was not covered in sand, something was wrong. Exfoliation, the way nature intended.

Depends on the weather.

Below freezing, I use my down sleeping bag as a sleeping bag, it's rated to keep me alive at -50F and comfy warm at 1F, unless it's down around 0F, It usually is partially unzipped. So far the lowest temperature it's seen with me is 0F, and I had it zipped up and was very toasty, almost too hot!

Around Freezing I use my down sleeping bag as a blanket.

in the 40's and maybe low 50's, I use my 10yr old sleeping bag as a blanket. maybe with my wool/alpaca blend blanket on top.

In the 50's and 60's, I use a blanket.

Above that, I may use a blanket, or just a sheet, depending.

So it totally depends on the weather, which I always check before bed.

With Love,
Tara

I sleep with my dog, Coco, so it's always juuuuuust right. ..Willy.

Back issues keep me moving about frequently so sleeping bags become restrictive so it is a comforter unless super cold, try to keep a bottom sheet in place, sometimes a top sheet followed by a soft fuzzy blanket, light comforter, open sleeping bag/comforter, and sometimes a poly/wool blanket or 'nother comforter/quilt.
Bed is 4' wide so each layer is double folded back toward the back side so that I can pull another layer on as needed.
depending on temps - long underwear , sweats, Hoodie may get in the mix. I hate being cold.

Four inch memory foam mattress,
Inch and a half "egg crate" foam,
Sleeping bag zipped open flat,
Assorted comforters depending on temps,
Oh, and Pax, she's like a little hot water bottle, without the leaks....

Hard to beat a good sleeping bag...I use one a lot and even like it when I am sleeping in any bed, alone...
Bri

The futon on a semi-rigid foam is very comfortable. On that it's fleece blankets and an old unzipped rectangular sleeping bag as a comforter. My dog completes it.

I forgot to mention something. If you hang around in cold/damp climates, keep an eye open for moisture buildup under the foam, cuz of mold. Insulating underneath and around the sides really helps, and so does a thinner sleeping pad. I also flip mine over regularly to ensure that it stays reasonably dry. ..Willy.

Would one of those zip up vinyl mattress cover/bags from walmart work? Or would moisture still get in there and just make things worse?

You might end up sweating buckets through the thin top sheet and waking up in a puddle, or at least a big wet patch.. and how do ya explain THAT??

I am lying in a futon foam (one of the older types which seems to be better packed than the new ones). I just throw on more and more blankets and comforters as it gets colder.
Right now, I have 2 over me. I have another small woven blanket for my feet if it gets really chilly.
I am thinking about making a small tent over my head to preserve the warm air but at the same time insulate my head from the cold.
(sleeping with a blanket over my head feels like I am suffocating at times)

It gets cold here in Alaska so I bought one of them -20 to -40 sleeping bags...Slept in it once as a trial in my unfinished addition to the cabin. I sleep like an egg beater, and because comfort was nowhere to be found in something so confining, it became a severe claustrophobic experience. That sleeping bags gotta go! I need one I can turn around it...Geez..I got it extra long and wide (single wide), but that is not enough to stretch my legs. Even in a regular bed, the blankets are usually on the floor when I wake up. I need a double wide! Dang...I spent a lot of money on that bag!!!

Rae

I usually just pile on the comforters and drag in the pooch. Actually, she paws my blankets till I lift it up and then she squirms under. ..Willy.

I've got a quilted fleece cammie hunting jump suit I bought for a couple of bucks in a thrift store I use for pajamas when the cold hits. Wear headgear, usually a balaclave, and wool gloves. From there it's only a matter of keeping the feet warm and adding a blanket as the temp drops.

Been thinking I'll make some fleece booties to deal with the feet. Probably will when it's cold enough to quit stepping outdoors to pee every couple of hours.

I sleep like Lily Munster... and I love being confined in those mummy sleeping bags. I have one good to 20* and I may have to buy another one for colder temps some day. Also, I don't move... at all... I fall asleep on my back with my hands folded and I wake up on my back with my hands folded.

yesican/Rea... would you like to sell your super warm mummy bag? Will you be at the RTR? Do you Paypal or eBay? I am always looking for a good deal!

Right On!
Bodhi
