When I was young I listened to the rebroadcast of Orson Welles The war of the worlds on the radio every Halloween. it was always late at night, in bed and lights out. It became a thing to find it every year even as a adult and finding it on the radio was part of it. Lately the tradition is more looking for it, not finding it. A few years back I went looking and found this site with the broadcast on it.

So tonight I will check the radio like I always have and one way or another will lay there in the dark and feel like a kid again just for a while.

Happy Halloween.

I stay off the streets. right now I am watching the original Star Trek TV show, and typing this post. highdesertranger

I'm at my mother's home until the first of the year (small town where I grew up), so as in the "olden days" I handed out candy to kids coming to the door. You turn your porch light on if you are dispensing candy. Had well over 50 this year!

I like it when the folks from the actual neighborhood go walking around with their kids.. often parents or grandparents are dressed up, too. But as it gets later... cars and truck some driving out, rolling along slowly to see who has a light on. Then you know those are just greedy kids whose parents drive them out from their own neighborhoods. Sort of ticks me off and takes a bit of the fun out of it.

Okay... am I now officially a curmudgeon????? Dang it. :-/

I am sitting at the dinette reading some things on cheaprvliving and wondering why I am not in Arizona warming my buns!!!
I am back in the driveway in Oklahoma City and at the moment it is 47 degrees. Yeah but I have $10.00 worth of candy and no sign of any goblins. It is 11:34 pm, mmmmmm. Warren

Yea, cause if I had stayed in my  neighborhood to trick or treat I would have had to walk a mile to the first house  and  then two and a half miles to the next house. :/

Happy Halloween

I live in a very rural area and have been here for 8 years and not a trick or treater since I have been here. The closest town is about 9 miles away and most of the businesses that are open later allow trick or treater with the hopes that it will decrease the possibility of accidents and such by keeping the little ones safe. Un like Memphis there is not a problem with teen age or older trick or treater.

Churches are big on the trunk or treat for the smaller ones and a couple of Haunted Houses for the older bunch are about 25 miles away.

started with a Lone Ranger marathon and now Naked and Afraid

I haven't given out candy for years. My neighborhoods just didn't have a lot of kids.

I like the dress up and play aspect of the holiday, and since this was my first 'retail' Halloween (we were encouraged to dress up) I revamped an old 'lady clown' outfit from a children's party gig I did eleven years ago (hey, I sew things well, so I hang onto them!). I decided to celebrate the Dia de los Muertos aspect with a Calaveras face and an added rose crown to the existing ensemble... had fun scaring a LOT of adults and tried hard NOT to scare the littles.

You know you've just personified the worst fears of anyone with a clown phobia!! LOL

Great artistic execution, too.

I know, I know, and I've got Many Other Fine Qualities, Too!   :p

They had me 'Greeting' twice since I was dressed for it and having fun with customers. It was a hoot watching full grown adults catch themselves when they saw me, then casually sidle over to the FAR side of the area as they passed me. Two pics were snapped with the express intent of causing phobic friends to hurl their phones against the far wall when they got them as an SMS (Friends can be EBIL!). More than once a child wanted my picture, and I made sure to ask them to be in the pic WITH me - should have seen them grin!

Thanks - I love costuming!

My mom sent me a pic of herself dressed up, so I had to send one back.

Weeks ago my daughter and I were going through the costume rack at the thrift store and I snagged a dress, but had no idea what to do with it. So last night, I dressed up as a serving wench, took a pic and sent it to my mom, then the ole man got a kick out of me serving him dinner in the getup.

Live outside of town so no trick-or-treaters... there's a bowl of candy staring at me in the kitchen I will try to stay out of, haha. ;)

Thank you Bob! I'm still a 12 year old inside, and boy, is she excited about the next chapter coming up!
