Same warranty at Walmart, 100 cheaper for the Wen. Anybody have either? Looking at a 3000watt

Champion has worked their way up to earn their place with Honda and Yamaha to form the big three. The 3100i while not as quiet as the 3000 series of the other two has more surge capabilities meaning it will start your A/C at a higher altitude. I believe they now have a size larger too. I would also get the remote start version. I had it on one of their 3500/4000 open frames and it was wonderful. They also have a good reputation for customer service.

Jim --- not as quiet is being too kind, dont you think? Am just starting to consider what I will use. Something that runs 70 db for noise is a lot more quiet than 90 db. Effectively more quiet than frogs chirping or crickets chirping at night; which is what I want when trying to sleep in hot boondock weather.

Am trying to find the least noisy generator with the lowest power AC system. Am led to believe that a 5000 btu wall AC with a good hard start capacitor and a small Honda generator is the path. But correct me please.

Not saying I will use this. Am still trying to analyze my AC system for boondock modification.

70db vs 90 db is pretty significant, but my AC would drown the wildlife sounds, anyway

70 db? That is louder than Champions open frame 3500/4000. Our A/C would drown it out too but I sure wouldn't want to be my neighbor. The 3100i is rated at 58/65 db, The same as the Honda Handi. the 2000i is as quiet as a Honda eu2000 except for under max load. Even the king of quieter, the Honda EU3000is is annoying at idle after a while which it won't be running a A/C.

The things that took Champion from a off brand to one of the big three is how long they have been around. The reliability of their products and the fact that you can get them repaired. My Sportsman 800w inverter generator was cheap at $157. Relatively quiet and light enough for me to pick up. It is also likely to become a paperweight if it ever breaks down.

Good point about the champion. If you can fix it you use it. What about the Briggs and Stratton generators? They can be repaired too. At least I think they still can.

The big open frames that use real B&S engines can but not the little inverters with the B&S name plate. You will find them sold under any number of brand names because a company will go to a Chinese factory, order a run of them and maybe a second run if the first run sells well. I seem to remember the fuel bulbs were a issue in the smaller ones when I first started looking. I'm glad I didn't bite because a 300 watt generator sounds neat but at the 10,000 ft I use to camp at it was only good for a light bulb.

Someone mentioned the 800 watt Sportsman I have was on sale again for $158 at HD. Worth it for the cost but I wouldn't bet there are parts.

Jim do you have a link for that sale, Tim, Lisa and I went to the HD in Bullhead City and they didn't have it. highdesertranger

The HD website shows it at $134, will ship to your store (if it's the same one).

Do you have a link? I saw $349 when I looked. It's a no brainer at $134.

I didn't see it at Home Depot. as I said someone just mentioned it. I did find it at Samsclub for $198.

It is a sweet little generator and no louder than a Honda 2000 when both are loaded up.

Googled Home Depot just now: (note it is a 2 stroke, not 4)

ok I'm interested in the Sportsman 1,000 (the 4 stroker) as it goes on sale for less than $160 at HD...

Here's a recent (12-2016) review from HD.com:

I am writing this review just to cancel out the very inaccurate review from "Jj" posted on December 10, 2016.
[font=opensans-regular,]He could not be more wrong - this is definitely a 4-cycle generator, and it's extremely quiet - more quiet in economy mode than my Honda EU2000i is! The fact that you have to put oil in it (not use pre-mixed gas and oil, which you *DO NOT* use with this generator) means it's a 4-cycle (4-stroke) engine. This is *NOT* a 2-stroke!
The description clearly states it's 800 running watts, 1000 surge watts - all generators are listed with the "surge watts" as their highlighted wattage; even my expensive Honda is listed as "2000 watts!" but only delivers 1600 continual watts. Not sure why "Jj" complained about that standard practice (and the info is right in the description).
This is an AMAZING generator for the money, currently $158. I ordered one and it runs perfectly, currently in our pasture running a 250watt water tank heater in 15 degree weather. I came back to Home Depot to order another one only to find that "Jj" had given it an inaccurate review so I decided to post this - if you need a CHEAP generator that is quiet and puts out 800watts all day long, get this! Correct. This is a four stroke inverter generator. I broke mine in before leaving, had a friend borrow it to work on their build at the RTR and he ran it for hours day after day. I ran it again in Yuma testing it with my little A/C and converter, even fired it up for Bob in Ehrenberg for a short time. Now I need to borrow a cup of gas and run it for a hour or so because it has sat for a few months and they need to be at least exercised for the betterment of the generator. It really is a last resort thing for me as my solar puts out more power but at least it will be there if I ever do need it. Can't beat it for the sale price.
