In NY, the Governor, Andrew Cuomo, and the Mayor of New York City, Bill DeBlasio, are both Democrats.
(I'd tell you how I REALLY feel about both of them, but I'm sure complete honesty would get me banned here for being too political, or too obscene, or too something. But I digress.)
Anyway, they've been in a major feud for years over who's going to be The Most Important Democrat in New York.
Cuomo has just issued an executive order. On any night when the temperature goes below 32 degrees, the police and other authorities are to get all homeless people into shelters, whether they want to go or not. If necessary, the mental health laws are to be used as an excuse to take them into custody. The New York Daily News was ecstatic about it, saying in an editorial "There is no Constitutional Right to Freeze."
Mayor DeBlasio is questioning the order, claiming the Governor has no authority to issue it. The ACLU is beginning to weigh in, too.
Of course, anyone here would have to be NUTS to spend any time in NYC, anyway.
Regards
John
