Just saw in a local paper that the Wings of Freedom tour will be nearby next week.

They're bringing a B-17 Flying Fortress ( one of eight still flying ), a B-24 Liberator ( the LAST known one still flying! ) and a dual-control P-51 Mustang. And for several hundred dollars, you could take a flight in one! ( Bucket List Item )

They travel around the country with these planes.

Details at:

Wings of Freedom

They come down here every year or so. About time for another visit. I can tour through the B-24 as it's very roomy inside. The B-17 is too tight for us big dogs...... :)
If you get down to Kissimee, Florida they have a "Warbird Rework" facility. They restore and rebuild old aircraft, and have a lot of old classics in their collection. Fun to tour if you like historic aircraft.

I have a long history with old warbirds, and B-17's in particular.

first, I've flown in Nine-0-Nine, the B-17 that's flying in the WOF tour (THAT was probably one of the most outstanding things I've ever gotten to do!! a good long flight too!!)

and my father (after he retired) worked for the EAA based outta Oshkosh Wis, and he was a major player in restoring and touring in their B-17 "Aluminum Overcast".

I was raised only 30 miles from Oshkosh, and went to the EAA's annual fly-in probably 15 times throughout the years. It's mind blowing how much aircraft there is to see there!!

I'd love to see that "Wings of Freedom" tour!!! Go if you possibly can!!
