In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly.
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
This was the poem written by World War I Colonel John McCrae

Yes, Thanks to all who have and are serving!!!

Haven't read "Flanders Fields" since I recited it on Veterans day, in grade school somewhere around '62.....Dang!

Last night was the first I heard of "green light".  I was getting a replacement bub at WM and a worker asked me if I was looking for a "green light".  I asked what a "green light" was and was told it was for veterans day and they were sold old.  Who knew? :dodgy:

Haven't heard of the green bulb thing.I think I would prefer a green boo...Oh never mind.By the way,no thanks required.I was glad to do it.

And a happy Veterans Day to you too PB....and all the rest of you veterans and family members.

Retired after 20 years Army in 1991, 24 years ago....time sure does fly when you're having fun. :)

Every day's a holiday....Have a great day all.

Wishing a good Veteran's Day to all my fellow and sister vets, and those currently serving, and their families.
Publix Grocery Stores is giving vets and serving military ten percent off their purchases today. Just show military ID or DD214.

They collected the wounded, the crippled and the lame. Those proud wounded heros of Suvla. The armless, the legless, the blind, the insane.ANd they shipped us back home to Australia. And the band played Waltzin Matilda, as they carried us down the gangway. But nobody cheered. They just stood there and stared. Then they all turned their faces away.RIP Liam Clancey

It can be argued endlessly about whether our leaders or politicians make wise use of our military capabilities.

But what I feel can NOT be argued is the debt of gratitude each of us at home owe to men and women who take on a uniform and literally put their lives on the line in service to our great country.

Thanks to those past and present.

I am late (again :( )

I did not not volunteer (Vietnam era) and my number was not called.

I do have the utmost respect for the men and women that do and have served though and I wish to express (belatedly) my sincerest thanks to all who have served and best wishes for all.

Late to the thread. From one veteran to all of the others here, thanks for your service.
