"...  Big V is indeed following the competition down the path of charging customers less for their data plans. However, current Verizon subscribers will need to let the company know they want to save money (or get more data)..."

That's standard operating procedure for most all telecommunication companies.

I work in the telecommunications consulting business and there's not a one that I know of that will willingly contact a customer to offer them a more appropriate plan. In most cases, they offer a client only as good a price as they feel they have to, to get and keep the customer.

For those of you with land lines still in existence it is wise to call your provider and ask what they can do for you. Take note and call them again in the appropriate time frame (ie they give you a 6 month bonus, call in 5 months). If you don't spend the time to force them to offer you better rates, you won't get them.

But then the same routine applies to your mobility plans as well!

I just purchased a Verizon month to month data plan (provided my own Jetpack). I got 8GB for $50 per month plus $20 per month for the service so $70 total plus the bullcrap add on fees and taxes. That seems less then quoted in the article.

That's good to know, I'll be looking for a service plan for stateside use come November and that's the best rate I've seen.

Now I just need to find a long distance calling plan that is unlimited calls to Canada. I can find US unlimited long distance but none include Canada in the plan.
