So I did my test run in September and only found a couple inconveniences....
The electric 'bed' is unbelievably horrible! - going to buy some foam to fix this problem.
Have to make some more bug screens for the windows.
Need a better 'set up' for my solar shower.
Other then that this has been the best decision I've ever made to buy this van. I will be packing again and hitting the road next week!
Thank you Bob for making this site and showing me that dreams can come true and I'm not crazy lol at least not super crazy

You're here - prima facia evidence for the crazy aspect - sorry *grin*

Hope you really enjoy you're time on the road!

Go baby go... You have taken your baby steps, now start to run as fast as you can... Enjoy your freedom...

Finally ditching the James Bond bed was one the best van decisions I've made. It dramatically improved my sleep, storage and gas mileage. Glad to hear you enjoyed the first run!

Vickie

OK, I've got to follow your progress since I just bought a G20 van myself. I was wondering about the bed. Mine doesn't seem too bad, however that opinion might change once I have actually slept in it.
-Bruce

Interesting. My friend Jonny B..who went to the last winter RTR in his Dodge conversion van claims that the rear electric couch/bed is extremely comfy for him and he has no plans to take it out....It must have to do with the manufacturer and the age of it...as well as what your needs are. He has infectious arthritis and fibromyalgia so the bed is important to him...I think his is a 94 van and a really high quality conversion.
Bri
Is the bed that heavy? I've already discussed removing the bed with a carpenter friend to start my conversion. He said don't do it. Instead, detail the van and sell it. He says this van is too nice to convert. He thinks I should get one with no windows before starting this project.
Now I'm torn on what to do?
-Bruce

If it was my decision, I'd keep it if:

*) I had an emotional connection to the van.

*) I was in a sort of hurry to get on the road.

*) I liked the windows and other things this van has.

Otherwise, it doesn't hurt to go shopping for a van, and see if there are more things you want in a van within your price range.
Hi Tara, Were you talking about my van, or Katelynn's?
-Bruce

Part of being happy in a van or RV is liking where you live. Also, the nicer looking the van, the less you will be hassled when you are living in it.

It sounds like you really like this van. My guess is that you'd be better off keeping this one.
Thanks, The more I drive it, the more I like it anyway. I think you're right.
Funny thing is, I've had three vans in as many years. I started out with a Ford work van with no windows, sold that and picked up the GMC Safari (that I still have), then found and fell in love with the latest G20.
Now I'm back to having three vehicles. I'm going to probably sell two of them. (maybe)
-Bruce
