I don't get very much mail as I do just about everything online. Every once in a while I will need to be able to pick up some forwarded mail or maybe order something online and have it delivered.

How do you guys do it when traveling cross country? In the past I just kept a PO box and went back once a week. Now I've changed my address to my parents house and will be hitting the road long term.

Will UPS stores or mail box type stores allow me to use a local location to have something sent there? If not what is the best way to deal with getting a package on the road?

I have them shipped to the campground or general delivery at the post office.....you can also have fedex and UPS hold the package at the terminal for pick-up

Have the package sent to General Delivery at what ever Post Office you want to pick it up at. I just called and made sure as this summer I will be doing the same.

Ok that sounds like it will work, I didn't know you could do that. LuckyMike, I don't stay at campgrounds. I'm set up for offgrid/stealth camping.

We use general delivery too. Works perfectly, just check to make sure the post office accepts general delivery because not all of them do.

I off grid also.....but every now and then I treat myself to a National park for a weekend (to pick-up shipments and live like a tourist)

Ok, thanks for that tip, I'll just call ahead before having it sent.

General delivery will work but I've had problems with the PO clerks 'not finding' my mail. Sometimes you have to be persistent in getting them to look at the stack of GD mail for more than 3 seconds before they say, "no nothing here for you", when there surely is. Try to have the sender use a manila envelope of a certain size each time so you can tell the clerks what to look for.

I don't think ups or fedex ship general delivery to the PO , so consider that when ordering online. I think they might have an option to ship to thier stores for pickup tho.

In most small to medium size towns I've had good luck finding a mom and pop type postal center who will receive mail or UPS-FedEx packages for me. Williams Arizona was one that didn't but i was only 25 miles to Flagstaff that had several. So I moved camp to near Flagstaff.

I order nearly everything non-food I buy from Amazon so I need someone who will receive UPS or FedEx which General Delivery won't.

I use general delivery, looking up post offices on usps.com. (It lists if they handle it.) Some small post offices limit the hours you can pick up general delivery, but that is not online. (Quartzsite and Winterhaven) Many limit the amount of time you can use general delivery to a month or two.

I "print" flat rate labels on paypal (cheaper than at the post office and includes tracking free) then email the pdf to the person I have handling my mail. Flat rate envelopes and boxes are free, some types (padded envelope) are not at the posts office and must be ordered -- they come in the mail.
