This is an adaptation of a recipe from the "Cooking with a Cardiologist" class that was put on at the local grocery store. I added more spice and celery.

These turkey burgers are quite moist and have an excellent flavor yet are a lot healthier than a 1/4 pound McRonald Burger... They are also super fast to mix up... I'm going to premix a batch before the camping trip next week.

1 lb 93% lean ground turkey (do not use the 99% stuff)
1/3 cup pizza sauce (or salsa. I prefer the "tang" of the pizza sauce)
1/3 t cumin (I use 1/2 t)
1/3 t cayenne (or more... I use a full 1/2 t)
1/4 cup finely diced celery (or onion if you wish)

Mix all together until well blended and form into patties. The meat will be very moist and mushy. If grilling, put them on foil or they will fall right through the grates. The patties are easier to pan fry or cook with a the George Foreman grill. Toward the end of the cooking process, I like to sprinkle on some jalapeno flavored seasoning (which is mostly salt).
Cook all the way through - the burgers will firm up very nicely.

This is such a fun, tasty alternative to beef. The celery adds a lot of flavor and cooks down till it's soft.

V.T.

DW makes a dish called turkey burger surprise usingTB and it's great. If she were here right now I'd get the exact recipe. But, basically you brown a lb of TB in a skillet, then add a can of whole tomatoes, can of kidney beans, can of whole corn, a bell pepper chopped finely, salt and pepper to taste and let simmer for awhile. Can add hot peppers if you like.
