Just got a message from ST that my 3gig plan (no contract) will go to 5gigs as of my next refill. Boy, I can go wild now :)

Actually, the 3 gigs was pretty good. We both do our emails, searches, maps/GpS, and even some Youtube. Margie has a couple app games she plays. So far we have kept within that frame without feeling pinched.
Another 2 gigs will find me looking for ways to burn up the extra.

Hey, maybe I could start posting a lot of crazy crap on Facebook... NOT!!!

Saw that message a while ago. Don't know anyone who actually teaches that point.

Nevermind. 5g applies to the BYOP program. I have one one thier crappy phones. I wish Cricket used Verizon towers like ST does. I travel all over the US. ST has the best coverage using Verizon towers. Data limit sucks. I may look into a Verizon jetpack to tether my tablet.

I've had very good luck with the Verizon jetpack. I do a lot of video conference calls with clients and internal staff and I've never dropped a call. I did just increase my limit from 10gb to 12gb today because I was starting to push the 10gb limit. For 12gb/month I'm paying $90.
It would be very easy to burn up that amount if you're not disciplined about streaming TV shows etc, but on the months I stick to JUST work stuff, I use only around 6gb.

We used a straight talk jet pack on verizon towers on last winters excursion. It worked well and the data cost was comparable. It was during this trip though that we switched away from ST after several years. They had notified me that I was out of data and even though I could prove them wrong using their own service (text data to 61611) I couldn't find anybody who would listen to reason. I suppose that the language barrier had much to do with that.
I tried to sell the jetpack locally on CL with no luck, so I figure i'll bring it to the next RTR and see if someone wants it.

I finally gave up on ST altogether. At one time, I had their phone and their mobile wifi. The wifi device just quit working at one point and dealing with the people in India became an epic challenge. Also, the phone wouldn't work here in AK, where I am currently traveling. I needed a phone, at least occasionally, so ended up going with Verizon. I had already been using their Jetpack. One drawback is that my Jetpack is 4G and, unlike the phone, will not work on 3G networks.

There is a Verizon Jetpack that works on 4G and also will downgrade to 3G when that is all that's available. You might be able to upgrade to that device.

I use the Netzero mifi. I have been running around 5 to 7 GB per month. When I got my tablet, it updated so much I had to change the settings. My no contract plan is 2GB then I buy extra as it is cheaper to do it that way than pay for a bigger plan. My daughter is running a straight talk mifi. Once we get back east, we will figure out which is better for us.

I hope this generosity flows over to the hotspot plans.

I made the jump from finding free wi-fi to a StraightTalk hotspot last winter.
I got the UMX 3G model and had endless problems . Trying to deal with UMX cust serv in India as has been mentioned was a pain. I switched to the LTE 4G this spring with MUCH better results.
The pre pay plan I use the most is 4GB for 60 days @$40.
Should be interesting when the Windows 10 upgrade comes out at 3GB.

Right now I'm on campground wi-fi at a maximum of 700kbs when the park is empty(almost never) to a low of 3kbs this morning !

I'm still using Net 10 for my cell ,the 300minutes for 60days works well for my limited cell requirements , I almost always have rollover minutes.

Have been many places that others had no service and mine worked.

Net10 and Straight Talk are both owned by Tracfone using Verizon towers.

So far the ST phone has been working out pretty well for us. We still have simple Tracfones that sometimes work when nothing else will.
I wanted a cheap, no contract cell/data deal. I was ok with the 3 gigs but now with 5 I feel like I'm getting a sweet deal. (and got the phone on sale...cheap)

Our laptops are both nearing that replacement point. Not sure yet if I want a tablet this time.
After we get those replaced, I will think about a no contract hotspot and drop this little android.

Looks like keeping your data and your voice phone plan separate pays off. Am going to try the $45 5gigs at 5mbps speed standard plan. They will work on 4G or 3G verizon towers for straight talk.

I may have just gotten screwed by Straight Talk.

I bought the hotspot that uses Verizon networks from Walmart along with a Straight Talk 4GB card that is good for 60 days.

Everything was fine for the first month but today I turned on the unit and it said my data was empty.   I have barely used the unit and each time I was using a browser with images and javascript turned off and monitoring my data usage.   I had 3.7GB the last time I used the unit and then turned it fully off.   Today it has 0.0GB.  The expiration is August 18.

Sometime in the past five days while the unit was off, 3.7GB went poof.  Since there is no way to prove anything, they can just do this whenever they want.

That's strange. Data does not go away if it's turned off. Did the renewal cycle happen early?

We had the same experience to the letter. It happened on my phone at the same time. I texted "data" to 61611 and their own service matched my phones reading which said I was good to go. Two hours on the phone with the cust srvce rep unable to see the reasoning led us to Verizon. It's a few bucks more but I get to talk to an American face to face if there's an issue. It really bummed me out because for almost eight years ST and Tracfone were what we used and hadn't ever had an issue up to that point.
One question for you though... were you using Opera browser with the Max feature? I was and guessed maybe that was the issue. But then I was looking for something to mke sense and Straight Talk was just going by the script. SMH

I was using Firefox and tracking my usage.

I have an email to customer service, so when they get back to me sometime in 2017, I will post what they say.

I am pretty convinced this is on purpose as it is a great way for them to sell more data prepaid cards.

I wish this would go class action lawsuit if it is widespread.

Warning taken. I was using Pageplus with only 3gigs data for same price and never had issue in two years. Will see about straight talk data on my 4g iPhone 5.

Just had a similar experience with AT&T, I've 3gigs of data monthly with rollover, had 4.8 left over from the previous two months at the end of my cycle... check to make sure I've got 7.8 for this month and nope, 4.8. They just get to do what they want and I have no recourse.

As soon as my contract is up in December I'm switching to Consumer Cellular.

Margie had a Consumer Cellular for a while and it had lousy signal thruout Nv and Or and most of Az.
We had better luck with a cheapo Tracfone. My Straight Talk does well in most areas.
