The half ton rating of my truck really limits my options. I could buy a used truck camper, but most weigh more than my truck could handle. I figured a 7' x 7' area plus maybe space above the truck cab should make a nice camper, but for the labor involved, and the cost of doing it, I would be better off getting a 3/4 ton van or Class C. I wouldn't mind a 22' Class A, but they are pretty rare. I have a 30' Class A, but I am not motivated to take it most places because of parking.
When I was living on a boat, I seen a cartoon of a marina. Everyone was on their boat looking at the next biggest boat. The guy in the biggest boat had binoculars and was longing for the smallest boat.
I thought about stealth camping, but I really don't need to. I have a pension, and a stick built home, so if I go camping I don't expect to be harassed for vagrancy. Sorry Officer, I didn't realize this was an unacceptable area to park, I will take my sorry ass on it's merry way. Can I offer you a cup of coffee and a doughnut?
Tomorrow I go looking at class C's. It seems they are a better value than vans. If it costs me an extra 5 miles a gallon, I guess it will not break my bank. Having stand up room is a big big plus. To do that in a van, I would have to have a real high top, and there goes the stealth feature and with a 3/4 ton, the gas mileage isn't much better than a Class C.
