Stealthing in New Orleans?

I took a quick trip into New Orleans as I was passing through the area and would like to stay for a week or so. The city seems pretty packed in and I'm not sure where to get started. Has anyone been able to make it here? Any tips?

i go to the blog of a homeless guy who lives in nola, from his very frank blog i gather theft is pretty bad there, so lock up well.

There's lots of vandwellers there. Not in the fancy parts of town though. It's definitely a risky place to do it, but the police don't seem to pay much mind. Pickup and campers were common too.
