Hello everyone,

My name is Sharon, my husband is Sal and we are traveling with our three cats.  We started full time RV living in October after selling our house and buying used truck and a 5th wheel.  We were originally inspired to try this lifestyle after watching Bob on Youtube.  We left Buffalo and went down to Florida and are now heading west towards the RTR as of December 10 and making reasonable progress getting there.  We've been going to campgrounds but are hoping to learn to boondock soon.   We plan to buy a couple of Honda generators.

We are looking forward to meeting others.

Sharon

Welcome to the CRVL forums Sharon and Sal!

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Hello Sharon & Sal,
My name is Kathi! My husband, Paul, our 2 dogs, & I started our full-time journey in Oct. as well. We have traveled from WV across the country & are now 40 miles east of Quartzite at Centennial Park in Salome, AZ. Very reasonable rates. After a week here, we opted to stay for another month. It’s a small, uncrowded, County park with large sites that provides electric, water at site & dump station. We went to Q., checked it out & decided we weren’t quite ready for full-time boon docking. Glad we did ‘cause many early mornings here have been down in the 20’s.....very grateful we can use our electric heater in the mornings.....sometimes we use propane Mr. Heater, too! Of course, being from Buffalo, I’m sure you are use to the cold. Daytime temps are comfortable! If you’d like any further info. about this park, I’d be glad to share!
We are planning to attend RTR, but probably commuting from here......want to attend a few of its gatherings & seminars.
Take care on the road!

Hello Kathi,   Nice to meet you.   Thanks for the info about Quartzsite and the park that you are at.   It sounds like it's been getting pretty cold at night.  Yikes.  We are definitely used to the cold being from Buffalo and sometimes we felt it has chased us.  We're in Texas right now and it's 36 degrees right now which isn't that far off from the temp in Buffalo.  But luckily most days it's better.   We still have to look into a propane heater.  They kind of scare me.

Happy holidays Sharon & Sal,
We have a Jayco Greyhawk Class C about 32’ long. While we have a furnace, we don’t use any heat source during the night....just a comforter, lots of blankets, each other, & our 2 dogs....haven’t had any trouble staying warm. But, when we get up in the a.m. (early risers about 4:00 because we’ve really never adjusted to the time change from east coast), we plug in our electric heater. When outside temps are in 20’s we supplement it with a propane Mr. Heater Buddy....cracking the window a little for ventilation. Like you, I’m a little concerned about propane. We use the 16 oz. cans that we also can use on our outside grill.
Cold weather here seems to be breaking, so prob. won’t be using propane heater for awhile.
We enjoyed our time in Texas staying in several Campgrounds: Weldon Rob Campground, Nocona TX, Clyde Lake Campground, Clyde, TX & (our favorite) Monahans Sandhills State Park (incredible sand dunes with great showers) Monahans, TX! From TX we moved into NM. We stayed at an interesting spot, Camp Washington Ranch, very close to Carlsbad Caverns. We only stayed 2 nights cause we thought $30 a night was a bit pricey. Then we went south to Pancho Villa State Park, Columbus, NM (in the middle of nowhere, but historically very interesting). Drove a couple of miles from the park & walked across the border into Mexico & had lunch at The Pink Store. After that, we went to a wonderful County campground right outside Tucson: Gilbert Ray Campground. Don’t know if any of these Campgrounds will help you moving westward, but thought it couldn’t hurt to share.
Would love to hear about where you have been staying as well!
Take care, enjoy your day & safe travels! RTR is closing in!

wondering if this place is far enough from Quartzite:  https://www.campendium.com/levee-road

Gypsy Spirit,
It’s about 40 miles from Q. There are water, electric hookups or primitive sites that are spacious.  Not many here right now....$14 a night with hookups, $70 a week or $160 a mo. with $.16 a kilowatt. Not sure the price of primitive sites. $2 showers are also available. You can’t drink the water, but we get our drinking water in town for $.25 a gallon. Thought you might like this info.
Take care, happy holidays, & safe travels,
Kathi

Thank you for all of that info, Kathi.  Sorry for the delay. We've been traveling about every 2 days, sometimes 3, trying to get to AZ.  We just arrived in Vado NM yesterday after having a tire blow out on the I-10 about 20 miles past Van Horn.  It was very scary and stressful.

So far since leaving Buffalo Oct 23, we have stayed at
Potter Country Family Campground in Coudersport, PA  around $30
Hershey RV Park in Lebanon PA  TT Park
Wilderness Presidential Resort in Spotslvania VA (hit a boulder on the way there, the RV was damaged and that was pretty upsetting) around $30 a night
Williamsburg RV Park in Williamsburg VA TT Park
Twin Lakes in Chocowinity NC which was special, our first time in NC and we had originally planned to move to NC before we decided to RV - TT Trails Collection Park
Forest Lake in Advance NC - TT Park
Pine Acres in Aiken SC - a small campground on a main road, mostly full timers - forgot the price
Hazelhurst GA - I'll have to try to remember the name of the park, it was around $25
Grand Lake RV Resort - $40 per night for 6 nights and then $38 per night but they gave us a discount on the last 4 nights so I think it was around $28 per night.
Three Flags in Wildwood FL TT Park
Yogi Bear Jellystone in Madison FL - I think it was around $40 per night
Rivers Edge in Holt FL - not sure how much that one was
Campgrounds of the South in Gulfport MS, don't recall the price but it was right on the Thruway and so loud, wouldn't stay there again unless I took a back in site to be further from the noise
Catfish Heaven in St. Martinsville LA - one night, not sure of the price
Quiet Oaks in Kinder LA - was not a bad park, train noises but not too bad
59 Trading Place in Cleveland TX - around $30 per night, it wasn't a bad place.  It's on the highway but it wasn't too loud, far enough back to be away from the noise and the manager was so nice.  They had a nice pond.
Leisure Resort in Fentress Texas - $44 per night - very quiet and off the beaten path but we had no cell service and their internet was not good so we wouldn't go back.   It was on the San Marcos River.
Riverside in Ingram Texas - $32 per night, very small and nothing that special but I liked it.  on the Guadalupe river
Road Runner in Fort Stockton, Texas - not a bad park, kind of barren looking, $30 per night but really bad potholes in the lot

If they weren't TT parks then a lot of them were Passport America so half price.

We haven't done much sightseeing other than the inside of casino buffet restaurants, LOL because we were on the go so much.   We hope to be able to travel less frequently after RTR.

WOW! So sorry to hear about the tire blowing out! Stressful, Scary, & Horrific! RV Nightmare! On the I-10......crazy scary!! I’m hoping you & Sal weren’t hurt & limited damage to your RV. Any advice for us, as a fellow newbie, on how to handle the situation! So much to need to know that it can feel overwhelming!
We have been at our current campground almost 3 weeks...needed a break from driving to relax & recouperate.
Thanks for all the information concerning where you have been staying- will keep it for later reference!
Take care, my fellow newbies, & may your continued journey to RTR be smooth, safe & less stressful!
Kathi
PS Watched a funny movie (RV with Robin Williams) streamed from Amazon last night that made us laugh out loud!
