Soylent...no cooling/refrigeration needed!

First a little background... I live in a 450 sq ft apartment and I purposely live a minimalistic life.  This includes unplugging my refrigerator to save on electricity and I've never used the stove in the place.  

With that said, I recently had a physical where my cholesterol was slightly elevated (205 total, 140 low).  So combining my high cholesterol and minimalistic tendencies, I decided to try Solent 1.5 (a powder in which you just add water).  I can eat the same thing for days on end, I'm not a big on cooking, I hate doing dishes, and this stuff is cost effective ($7.71/day for 2k calories if you were eat this solely, and there are many similar companies out there with different blends: http://www.blendrunner.com/).  

I figured it might be beneficial to bring this up on the forum for folks on the go as I plan to supplement my food with this stuff when I hit the road.  It should also minimize my cooking/cleaning (water usage?) as well as needs for refrigeration.

We'll see how it goes.... been a month now supplement two meals a day with the stuff (my lunch is a large salad with chicken currently) and no ill effects.  I realize this won't be for everyone and choice is good.  I just hope folks refrain from the "Ewwww...I could never give up <insert favorite food>!!!" :p   Thanks and if this sparked an idea for you, saweet!   :D

I've been using it off and on for months now and it's great stuff! I actually love the name, but I have a warped sense of humor.

It solves a lot of problems I had with buying, storing and preparing food as well as my tendency towards eating junk food.

When I was 99% soylent I had a little trouble finishing off the jug each day and gained a small amount of weight. Turns out I don't need the full 2000 calories, 1200-1500 is more like it.

Nice!  So if you are not 99-100% soylent now, what % are you today?  What else do you eat to minimize cleanup and refrigeration?

You learn what's in it by reading the label, same as you do with "real food" unless by "real food" you mean 100% natural, non-processed straight from the earth/hoof.

yep I remember the last thread. I just can't get past the name, kinda like escargot. you ain't fooling me. what gets me is why would anybody name it Soylent. highdesertranger
 
yea the name is too funny. and yes I dug the movie!

The show stopper for me is "Soy"... my wife and I avoid that ingredient at all cost.

I work in short spurts at casinos about half the time (see my other thread about poker dealing) and get free or very cheap food so during those times I'm 90% whatever is in the cafeteria, 10% random snacks and sometimes soylent. Between jobs I'm probably 80% soylent, 20% fruit, canned soup, and junk food. I'd like to cut out the junk but when I'm driving long distance those drive-thrus call to me.

It's easier and tastes better when I mix a whole jug at once and let it cool for a while before drinking but 1.5 doesn't seem to last more than a few days in the fridge. I think I'm gonna switch to single servings from now on.

The last "Fad" food I had was the Scarsdale diet. I prefer my food in solid form.
 
There is the all natural RAW food diet being sold for a few years. Basically try to eat everything raw and fresh and known as food. Many swear by it with making shakes with a high speed blender and vegetables.

Tried the soylent path for a little while. Switched to HERBAL LIFE shakes. My concern is too much soy has been linked to higher levels of estrogen in your blood. Not sure if that is a myth or not. Am trying to use the PEA PROTEIN version of shake now. Also have a concern about too much salt in dried meals as manufacturers like to preserve with salt.

AH, The Makers Diet.  My X spent a bundle on a fancy blender she was to lazy to clean.  It got in the way of her Hostess Cupcake Diet.   :dodgy:  

I am still eating what I want, (I keep telling myself I don't want that pastry) but in smaller portions. With $120 a month for the Januvia, I do not have a choice but to cut back. I am getting a handle on the diabetes.  :D
