Hi Guys, The bank has not thrown me out yet so I'm still researching and planning!
I would like to know more about:
1. Tab Casting, particularly Google Chromecasting?

2. Carriers: I have an old 3G Apple iPhone with AT&T
-> I like the ASUS products particularly the Nexus 7 and realize I will have to switch
to an Android device to do the things I will want to do. (just dump the iPhone?)

3. Dash mounted GPS: With Nexus 7? (leaning that way..)

4. Getting mobile Internet with Foxfi/PdaNet app: what it is, how it works, where to get it
& what carrier I need to receive it?

5. I know that I want a strong Internet connection (mobile broadband?)
and I know that I want the best GPS app and I also know that I want my Netflix!
I am currently a DirecTV customer and can continue that? (good idea/have a better idea?)

What I do know is that at this point, I have no idea what I know! So I'll be open to any and all info.
This is fun stuff and should really help me with the very serious "stick & brick" to "Fiver"
transformational jitters I am currently experiencing.

Yeah sorry never mind: I got it all sorted out. Just having fun on a great forum. Sorry guys.

There isn't a magic cheap solution to mobile Internet.

You are basically down to 2 options:

1) WiFi from various free places, you can buy extender things, and stronger radios and antennas to really help with this.

2) Pay loads of money to some provider. in the USA, Verizon is the de-facto winner for getting decent signal in out of the way places(i.e. away from large cities).

3) do the giantly large satellite dish thing for Internet. Apparently Dish does this relatively cheaply now, but the giant dish probably makes it unfeasible for most of us.

Doing things like TV, Movies, etc over the Internet only works if you don't have limits to the amount of data you can transfer, if you are on option #2, then you are pretty much guaranteed to have a limit, so don't bother trying.

Phones as GPS devices work really well, for the most part. I use an iPad Mini with Cellular built in, it works great 99% of the time. It's not so great once you get out into State, National Forest or BLM land, since electronic versions of those maps are scarce.

As for Google/Android vs Iphone/iOS device. Use what your friends have, particularly your more technology minded friends. Same with the Windows vs Mac debate. They both work fine, they both do essentially the same things. So either use what your friends have or strike out alone, and do what feels right for you. Otherwise it's just an endless debate. I personally use iOS on an iPad mini with Verizon service.

With Love,
Tara

Hi Tara & thanks so much for that gracious and informative response.
From my current perspective, one could predict my "rapid fire" load of questions but the fact is,
I'm not out there yet so as you say, I'll figure it out a little at a time along with everything else
found withing the realm of "transition" when beginning full timing.

I'm an Internet junkie no doubt so I will quickly sort it out after the fact.
I really like ASUS because I've built and repaired many home towers and found them
everywhere in most home rigs. Motherboards in particular and that is a biggy.
I'll probably pick up the Nexus 7 for GPS in my tow vehicle and something from
them for a notebook as well. So many folks want to sell us these devices, difficult
to choose sometimes. I have found lots of reviews and sites with their "top 10" best
and worst format so I'll just see what fits my needs. I see there is a solar chargable
laptop and a convertable that disconnects the keyboard leaving what appears to be
a huge iPad.
I also fly in the Microsoft Flight Simulator X but the online part of that game is shut
down right now. That's it for gaming for me. So basically, I want the best overall
GPS and to work on my book and web sites. Thanks again, Morgan
